The Resistance Is Turning Its Fire on a Conservative Democrat.

Congressman Dan Lipinski is a Democrat. In 2016, his Illinois district voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump by 15 points. Four years earlier, it backed Obama by 12.

But you wouldn’t know any of those things from his voting record. Despite hailing from a comfortably blue district, in a deep blue state, Lipinski voted against the Affordable Care Act, the DREAM Act, legislation protecting gays and lesbians from discrimination, and for a nationwide, 20-week abortion ban.

Now, progressives are on the brink of voting him out of office.

To this point, the “resistance” movement has focused its fire on Republicans. But like the conservative activists who mobilized against Obama, liberals have decided to set aside their House-taking project long enough to do a bit of house-cleaning. And few Democrats offer the left a better — and safer — opportunity to demonstrate the risks of betraying the progressive cause than Lipinski. Thus, his primary challenger Marie Newman, a businesswoman and political neophyte, has won the endorsements of NARAL, moveon.org, Democracy for America, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and Human Rights Campaign, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand — and, as of this week, two of Lipinski’s Illinois colleagues.

I hope his primary challenger is able to gain a place on the general election ballot and that she will receive outstanding support.

This district is winnable by a solid Democratic woman as a candidate. Let's help her out if she prevails in the primary.

I cannot imagine why a Democrat in a solid blue district would vote against the ACA and Dream Acts. That doesn't make sense to me.

term? I'm at a loss. Is there a specific group called the resistance that I am unaware of? Isn't just a collective of all anti-Trumpers? Didn't it (the term) start with the original Women's March?

"Is there a specific group called the resistance that I am unaware of?"

I'm mocking no group. You just highlighted that in no uncertain terms.

It's not a term. It's a reference to an imaginary group. One that truly doesn't exist. It's comfort food for independents when being bastardized like this article does.

Every bit of this drivel is mock worthy.

How is this anti-Trump as you have tried to link it?

anti-Trump. I did link the term, as I have always understood it to anti-Trump. From what I've seen the Women's March and Indivisible were the key efforts/groups the term grew out of. The challenge to Lipinski seems to be coming out of those efforts too.

Heck, Olbermann has a whole show using that term!

I’ve been doing that for many, many years, probably 10 or 15 years."

I'm not a fan of Manchin, but I get the politics involved in many of his decisions. Lipinkski has no such excuse.

Coincidentally, I brought him up in a separate thread and got some pushback. People really need to read more about him as he's terrible, and for no reason.

He only got elected because his daddy dropped out and anointed him with no time to put anyone else on the ballot. He is not well liked and is freakishly scared of his constituents. He has been ok bringing federal $$ to his district and has the political machine of Michael Madigan backing him. He is conservative as they get on social programs and responded to me a while back he is a Christian above all else. He should never have been elected and did not even live here when Daddy effectively gave him the job. The district is solid Dem. He needs to go. He is one Democratic candidate I never voted for, even when I could. I chose to write in an alternative.
Go Marie!
