S.F. mayor thinks stop-and-frisk would have stopped the Aurora shooter

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Ed-Lee-stands-firm-on-stop-and-frisk-plan-3729307.php

Mayor Ed Lee remains resolute in implementing some form of a stop-and-frisk program - even if it's not called that - in the wake of Friday's horrific movie theater mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., and a trip to Philadelphia, which has its own controversial stop-and-frisk program.

"I am as, if not more, committed, and especially in light of the massacre that occurred in Aurora, but also the review of what's happening in New York and Philadelphia and Chicago and the crime that's committed," Lee said Monday on the sidelines of an announcement about federal transportation funding.

Stop-and-frisk policing, where officers stop and search people they deem suspicious in an attempt to get illegal guns off the streets, have routinely been likened to racial profiling....

Last week, the City Hall steps were filled with politicians and people carrying signs reading "Am I suspicious?" and calling stop and frisk the new Jim Crow. The protesters delivered 2,000 signatures decrying stop and frisk to the mayor's office. Later, the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution opposing bringing the controversial policy to San Francisco.

Ed, could you please tell me how a white suburban grad student would have been "deemed suspicious" and stopped and frisked?

White kids don't even get stopped and frisked in high-minority high drug trafficking areas, where their very presence is pretty much the definition of "deemed suspicious" for "participation in criminal activity", i.e., drug possession.

The concept is beyond repellent. That kat should be run out on a fucking rail. Liberal my ass. This is what happens when you tolerate nonsense like "Terry stops". The police state needs more restrictions not a freer hand to harass citizens on the pretext of stopping what is coldly statistical noise.

I will happily donate to a Democrat who believes in the Bill of Rights who will oppose this piece of fascist scum if he runs again. That mayor isn't liberal, he isn't even American to my mind. Who the hell support such a thing?

The bathwater needs to go, baby and all.

at first he was only supposed to serve as a caretaker after Gavin Newsom was elected Lieutenant Governor. But after earnest entreaties from ordinary citizens who had no ties whatsoever to developers and other power brokers , he reluctantly decided to run.

Note that the more liberal Board of Supervisors has already passed a resolution opposing this.

I didn't vote for that fucker, and will do everything within my power to see that he is not reelected and that his stop and frisk bullshit is never implemented.

Let me add a little subtext to this move on Lee's part: There has been an ever increasing tension between the Chinese and African America communities here in SF that has resulted in some acts of violence against Chinese immigrants. I live and work in the southeast where this tension is most prominent, and have no doubt about just who would be getting "stopped and frisked".
