their argument of course is 'the gop only has 50 votes, the dems are obligated to give up 10 to pass the bill and if they dont give up the 10, the fault is on them'..... horseshit.
My simple response to them was the following....
The party in charge of the government needed 10-14 democrat votes to pass the budget bill and it was up to the gop to get those 10-14 votes by any means necessary. that's governing. the gop failed to get those 10-14 votes. thats on them
and then follow up with...
and so now that the gop realizes that they need 10-14 democrat votes, what do you believe the gop will be willing to offer to the dems in order to obtain those 10-14 votes?
thats enough to throw their tiny little brains into a short circuit.

(52,209 posts)they can pass a budget resolution and pass an omnibus spending bill via reconciliation rules.
both steps require only a simple majority in each chamber, meaning republicans can do it with zero votes.
they refuse to do this because they're too irresponsible and yellow to approve a budget and spending that shows a trillion+ dollar deficit, which is the result of their greedy and irresponsible tax cut.
it's not even a matter of it being on them to win over democratic votes.
they're only in this situation because they can't even get their own act together.

(52,209 posts)The first step is to pass a budget resolution and they refuse to do that. It being an election year plays into that decision.
They will likely do the reconciliation game next fiscal year, after the election, especially if they lose control of one or both houses (theyll do it during the lame duck session.)

Let 'em chew on that one. The Great Dealmaker couldn't manage to broker a deal, even though he held most of the cards.
