(15,682 posts)I feel like I should counsel my future ex husband but it could make him dig in (like the maggot with Obama - if I say something he must do the exact opposite.) I really wouldn't know how to counsel him anyway. But when it comes to money, he is easily taken advantage of.
He once paid $10,000 to a con man claiming to be collecting for money we owed on a credit card. I had already paid the balance off but future ex did not believe me - until the DA called to tell him he'd been conned out if $10,000.

I keep taking a bit out and moving to safety, but next week it's right back up again. It's been unbelievable.

(24,761 posts)Emotionally, tRump literally drove me to drink to alleviate this constant anxiety he inflicted on me.
I see gas prices going up again. Food prices are going up, especially eggs, which are up to $2 a dozen from a buck and a half.

(15,807 posts)Both my kids are now in college. One is on a full ride and the other is on a nearly full ride. That alleviated a lot of stress over their future, and our finances.
Ive lost 60 lbs since the inauguration and get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. My blood pressure is quite normal now.
We have a 401k and a 457 and the market returns have been crazy good. I cant complain about it.
Ive found some great podcasts to listen to each week and that helps me feel like all is not lost and certainly all this shit is not normal. That truly helps me cope.

(17,304 posts)I find it disheartening how many DUers are encountering health problems during Trump's first year in office. It sounds like you have take the initiative to ensure you're going in the opposite direction. Kudos.

(107,956 posts)I don't think Trump deserves credit for that however.
Some the securities growth has to do with anticipation of corporate tax cuts. On the other hand a lot of it is a continuation of an upward trajectory that started under Obama.
That said there are many of my friends and family who aren't doing better.

(10,893 posts)is a little worse off financially, but that in fairness has nothing to do with Toupe Fiasco. My dad has been unable to find or keep a job for years due to an alcohol addiction, my older sister is at a decent-paying job that mistreats her, and my mom has a significantly lower-paying job than last year. As for me, I'm about the same as I was last year financially. I have about $900 coming in monthly, and still continue to help with the water bill as well as pay some personal bills such as WF credit card debt and student loan debt.

(11,949 posts)But if my personal bottom line was the most important thing in my life I would not be a member of the Democratic Party. We are college educated, middle age, no kids managers. Been with the same company over 30 years.
But the people who work for me are not doing better. They make middle class income but pensions are dying and they cannot afford to save hundreds of thousands in a 401k on their pay.
Healthcare and college for their kids are killing them and they know it. And are pissed. But of course, I cannot say anything political at work.
True Dough
(17,304 posts)what you describe for the middle-class workers at your place of business is a reality for far too many people, unfortunately. Pensions are a dying breed, indeed.

(31,384 posts)On Nov 10th I walked away from a 32 year marriage, almost a year to the day after seeing Trump win. I could no longer handle so much anger in my life--at home with my husband or in the larger sense of the world focused on the actions of Trump and Republicans. I am toying with the idea of leaving the country once the divorce is final and that's at my age of late 60's.
Financially I will be worse off divorced, especially if I am not able to keep all of my IRA and am forced to split it with my husband. Hoping to get him to agree by not asking for alimony.
I am happier separated from my husband than I've been in a long time but still have a high level of anxiety and stress about the country. Although I will be living off savings and income from investments because my SS is so little, I think I will have enough to be able to live comfortably if I am careful with expenses.
