All we got was Mitch McConnels word

Think about that for a moment. This is NOT a win. We got the word of a man who orchestrated the theft of a Supreme Court seat. A guy who threatened the President when evidence of election interference came up in a meeting. This is not someone to be trusted.

Before anyone brings up CHIP, that was in the CR from Friday. That is not something we “got” as a result of the weekend.

That being the case. All we got from my perspective is the word of an untrustworthy turtle. Can anyone list the other things we “got” from this? I’m trying to find a bright side...

....the shutdown was falling on their shoulders. It would have been easy to show them not re-opening the government because they didn’t want to help children or people who were victims of human trafficking (which is essentially what DACA folks are).

This should have been the easiest thing in the world...and all we walked away with was McConnels promise of a vote. Great.

Or they dont think they do.

Our side respects government and what it does for people, their side thinks government is bad and a waste, even those on their side who cant survive without it believe this crap.

No, they had nothing to gain because they know the blue wave is coming anyway. ALL they want is to harm brown people and they will try to do that whether the government is shut down or it isnt.

The good news is the filthy fucking disgusting freedumb teparty pricks do NOT control the GOP in the Senate and house in that there are enough cons to vote with us on DACA.

it's an extensions for all of three weeks.

if we don't get a deal we're ok with then we're back to shutdown and negotiation, whether mcturtle played his part or not.

if democrats feel mcturtle lied or otherwise pulled a fast one, they'll dig in more in three weeks.

i don't see how "let's keep the lights on for the next 3 weeks while we negotiate about what we wants and if we don't then the lights go back off" has to count as "caving" somehow.

now, if democrats do the exact same thing over and over, as mcturtle delays things endlessly, that's another story. but a one-time 3-week extension?

yawn.

The goons have both houses of Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court. We have two tools in the bag: delay, and procedural maneuvering, in the Senate alone, and that is it. We used the delay to buy time for maneuvering.

The fuck does anyone expect out of that bullshit? We're lucky they're not hunting us in the streets... yet.

In addition to being totally untrustworthy, Mitch McConnell is also slow, stupid, evil, and bad at his job. We bought time to twist that fool into knots, and that's the only thing that Democrats are in a position to pull off right now.

That's it. Republicans are not going to concede anything, ever. They're not that good at their jobs. But because they're not good at their jobs, and we are better, we now have a chance to pull off some stop-loss maneuvering. We'll see in three weeks.

I would love to be wrong about this, so, people of DU, feel free to name something besides delay and maneuver in the Senate that Democrats can do in our federal government at this moment in time. I welcome the implausibles, particularly, so don't be shy.

Please make sure it also prevents the major economic losses of millions of government employees, contractors and businesses in countless communities that rely on government pay checks and CHIP funding. And it also needs to avoid the things we didn’t like in the previous bill.

That's one move in our favor as 80% of the country want the DACA kids to stay.

The next, and we should all be thinking of next moves as in chess, is if the repugs renege and we don't get a good DACA outcome, we shut it the fuck down again.

McConnell and the repugs will again be shown to be inept at governing even though they hold all branches of government.

That's another future move in our favor.

They don't know how long the next shutdown will last and they will get the blame for not being able to figure out how to keep the doors open since they run everything.

That's whats hanging over their heads now.

Immediate gratification is over rated.

The repugs can go against their word and try to slip it in but like I said, we have the votes to shut the whole thing the fuck down again.

You think they won't be worrying about that, about how they can't keep things running, how the Dems are pulling their strings?

The shutdown was falling squarely on Republican shoulders. What were they keeping the government shutdown for? Not wanting to help people who were trafficked into this country against their will as children? The framing on this is so simple...but Democrats are unwilling to say the hard things.
