When Thinking about DACA and Immigration - One Fact to Remember

The Republican Right's ultimate goal is to remove everyone from this country who is not Caucasian, Christian, Native English-Speaking and Republican. That informs everything they do with regard to immigration and citizenship.

Their promises are worthless and will not be honored.

on a DACA bill will go, and what will happen in the more heavily Republican controlled House.

Still, CHIP was funded another six years. That is good.

The American public is really stupid, or maybe to be more charitable, really susceptible to the half-truths and lies spouted by various media sources. With the shutdown, the Dems were running a real risk of coming out looking like the bad guys. Now, though CNN has an editorial saying the CR was a 'defeat' for Dems, maybe it wasn't.

Maybe we now look, at least to some thoughtful independents (who outnumber both Ds and Rs), that we're the adults in the room, and chose to compromise because we feel that a shutdown hurts Americans, which it does. The Republicans don't care about that, and it shows.

Did you see the new Letterman interview with Obama? It was fantastic. When asked about the polarization, Obama identified the root cause as being that everyone is not operating with the same set of facts. We need the Fairness Doctrine back. Obama did get a laugh when he quipped that "if you watch Fox, you're on a different planet."

As to McConnell's promises, you're right. But that could backfire. I hope it does. I mean, look how quickly people changed their attitudes about gay marriage. This might happen with the Dreamers, too. Let's hope so. ICE is looking more like a criminal 1930s and 1940s state police organization every day.

I think Dems did all they could in this round to elevate DACA issue - it will be wrong and center over next three weeks.

GOP cannot ignore it - much as they would like to try.

Though it's racism too. The browning of the country bodes ill for the RepubliCONs' ability to win elections, even with all their vote-stealing shenanigans.
