As Ive posted a few times, several times a week I watch both the Japanese and German news broadcasts in English on cable TV.
Last week Japanese news did a story on Trump claiming credit for succeeding (through his hard work) to get Toyota to move a planned automobile factory from Mexico to Alabama.
Yeah Trump, right?
Except the Japanese news had a Toyota executive on who said the factory was never intended to be built in Mexico, and was always planned to be built in Alabama.
Oh well, just another Trump lie.

(2,312 posts)Trump's Lies, as collected by The New York Times
Nothing personal, but sometimes I get a little irked by people who claim something about "the media" that isn't true at all. I know that we journalists don't have a spotless record, and that the Times itself was complicit in Bush's war crimes, that CNN helped propel Trump's candidacy, etc., but I hope that baseless blanket "evil media" statements can be a thing of the past.
Further, there are a lot of news media out in the world, more than ever, frankly, despite the demise of traditional printed publications. To lump all journalists and their associated media into a single pile is frustrating, to say the least.

(63,208 posts)I'm going to revise my complaint slightly and allow that the major media outlets do permit Trump to be called a liar in opinion pieces, but it's vanishingly rare that an actual article calls him out as such. And with all due respect to the myriad news media out in the world, for these purposes we can ignore those from outside the US because they're frankly not relevant in this context.
Further, we can also dismiss non-traditional media formats such as blogs, etc. that feature opinion pieces because these, too, are not relevant in this context. Of the remainder--that is, those produce original content featuring objective, verifiable reporting--how many are calling Trump a liar or calling out his lies? And, of those, how many are sufficiently visible on a large scale to have a measurable impact?

(2,312 posts)And well said. Thanks. As I noted below, the problem with our journalistic media model is that its primary function is generally to draw viewers/readers/listeners and to make money for either rich people or shareholders. There are a great number of privately funded media out there, but they don't get the attention that the major outlets do.
Take care.

every morning and talk for an hour unimpeded and say things that weren't true even then. He would talk about President Obama and how he was going to rebuild the military, ( as if they were broken, which they weren't). I know because I worked in procurement for DoD and purchase orders for ships, aircraft carriers, fighter jets, or cargo planes, tanks etc aren't issued over night. Assessments for these things are years in the making based on a number of things, to include the aging of fleets, current operations and deployments, new technology, etc. Those plans don't change based on a new administration. What could change those plans would be something like an unforeseen war or a foreign invasion i.e. Kuwait and Iraq. For instance, when we went into Kuwait and Iraq, our military vehicles and tanks weren't designed with IED's in mind and had to be reinforced with armor plating to protect the troops. Of course the additional armor plating affects other things like transport vehicles used to transport those vehicles to the war zone due to the added weight, etc. The president doesn't decide those needs. Also when we invaded Panama, the equipment we had was intended for a war in Europe or against the Soviet Union in a colder climate, and not the humidity of central American climates.

(2,312 posts)Thank you. It's a stain on MSNBC's reputation. And the race for ratings/profits is a major flaw in our journalistic media model.
