Updated: Dems agree to take DACA out, Trump signals he agrees to path to citizenship.

The first story, below, indicated that Democratic Senate leaders agreed to drop DACA

However Trump just announced that he would agree to a path to citizenship for DACA kids. It looks like the Republicans have agree to proceed as long as it didn't look like they were caving. We shall see:

https://politicalwire.com/

President Trump said for the first time “that he is open to a path to citizenship for some younger undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” in an immigration deal being negotiated by Congress, a potential breakthrough in the stalled talks,” the Washington Post reports.

“In an impromptu discussion with reporters, Trump emphasized that his support of a citizenship path for about 690,000 immigrants would be contingent on securing $25 billion for a wall on the southwest border with Mexico and $5 billion for additional border upgrades. The president also is expected to continue his push to curb legal immigration as part of a deal.”

here is the original OP

This is most depressing.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/01/24/democrats-drop-dreamer-demand-with-budget-deal-in-reach-366992

Senate Democrats are willing to drop their demand that relief for Dreamers be tied to any long-term budget agreement — a potential breakthrough on spending talks, but one that could face opposition from their House counterparts.

The shift comes in response to the deal struck between Senate leaders Monday to reopen the government and begin debate on an immigration bill next month. Meanwhile, budget negotiators are expressing optimism that a two-year agreement to lift stiff caps on defense and domestic spending is increasingly within reach.

“We’re viewing [immigration and spending] on separate terms because they are on separate paths,” Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Tuesday.

It was never an "immigration issue" it was a fairness issue. If a child is in the car with a drunken driver is that 4 year old guilty of a DUI? When we cannot stand for innocent children we stand for nothing.

Passing a budget will be good for me personally but I oppose it 100%

Saying House Democrats will not go along is silly because it will pass with Republican only votes.

I remember when it was Karl Roves favorite go to site. I take whatever I read there as republican thought. They try to set the narrative always against Democrats.

That said Politico is out of touch with what’s going on in the country.

for a path to citizenship

Maybe a deal was made as long as they didn't link it to the budget so that the Republicans didn't look like they were caving.

Trump has problems finding his ass with two hands and a flashlight...and his word is worthless!!! Besides, there is no way that the Republicans in the House will even consider a path to citizenship!!!

type bill. Not so much tea party, Kelly or Miller and Trump is day to day but having DACA kids deported would be hard to defend and would affect polls/mid terms... They can't call it DACA tho or credit could go toward Obama and Dems.... so they have to reframe it and make it their idea....

Will they force the GOP to take sides on the budget fiasco wall?

I suppose the Democrats are counting on Trump changing his mind about deporting Dreamers or extending his threatened deadline for congressional action. This is maddening.

Wait a week and say lets talk.

Folks will be by shortly to explain how this is all part of an elaborately planned rope-a-dope and that Republicans will suddenly develop a conscience when the party welches on allowing a vote on DACA despite video of Mitch McConnell swearing on his great-great-great Uncle's Servant's Daughter's Husband's honor that he would allow it.

Politico has direct quotes including this one

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), another member of Democratic leadership, said that although she would prefer a deal to protect young undocumented immigrants be part of budget negotiations, the agreement reached with McConnell could make that impossible. The Kentucky Republican has said the Senate would turn to an immigration bill only if the government is still funded, and few Democrats seem to want another shutdown.

“Feb. 8, we’re going to have another [stopgap bill]. But we have to have that budget agreement in order to move forward. … That’s the goal,” Murray said. “And then the deal is that if DACA is not part of that, then it will be the next thing considered.”

“Everyone’s first preference is to get it all done by the 8th,” a Senate Democratic aide said on Wednesday. “We haven’t speculated on what happens if it doesn’t all come together.”

Its not like they are using unnamed sources.

I get the Washington Post via Kindle can't find anything there. I've gone to Senator Murray's website and did a search on Twitter using the topic DACA with no success with either. Twitter did point to the Politico story only.
