I know The Post film has already been discussed here,

but I saw it today in a packed theater (rarely happens in my little town), to resounding applause at the end (NEVER happens).

Please support this film... we must all do what we can to keep our first amendment rights, and Streep, Hanks and Spielberg did their part. Awesome doesn’t begin to describe it.

Incredible movie. My Dad told me once that he stopped trusting the news after Vietnam because they lied to him. I didn't understand what he meant but I get it now. I wish he was still living because I would have loved to have seen it with him.

Popcorn is much disgustingly better and unhealthier too, so that’s a great reason to go every few years!!

But don't like the jerks that attend the only theater in town, just to throw it at you.

Not a packed house but a nice crowd. We applauded at the end and in a second the whole house was doing the same.

…for best picture this year because of its freedom of the press message—it's politically right on the nail given where we are right now.

It will be outrageous if Shape of Water wins—a fairy tale up against the first amendment. Come on Academy!

I had both chills at the end of seeing it and profound sadness that the events and the press that brought down Nixon no longer exist as they did then.

We were all applauding and saying YEAH! several times during the film...
I myself was not aware of the history behind the Pentagon Papers, so I learned a LOT too...

Also, very good sub-story about women's rights... The FIRST woman publisher and her struggle to find her own voice...Powerful performance by Streep (when has she NOT been amazing?).

Also a very interesting piece of journalism history I was not aware of, the close relationship between editors, publishers, reporters and politicians...That had to end because it was more important for the Journalists to tell the truth than to shield their friends in power. I wish we had more of that today.

As someone who considers themselves a journalist (my last newsroom stint was early 2000's), this was not just a history lesson, but a lesson for NOW as well... Our First Amendment is on shaky ground when the POTUS calls the MSM "fake" ...Those who consider themselves journalists need to STAND UP and FIGHT for the Free Press!!!

I remember the phrase ' for the good of the country'.
Nixon shouldn't be impeached, he didn't do anything wrong. Let him resign.
I thought then and still believe that the Democrats did the country a disservice by allowing Nixon to resign without impeaching him. I always felt the republicans felt they could do whatever they wanted with impunity. And now we have Trump.
Nobody should be above the law.
And if we Democrats love the country we live in we should be willing to stand up and do anything to hold Trump accountable.

We Democrats tend to look to the better Angels of our nature. It is against our grain to allow suffering and inhumanity. Republicans have a stronger eye on the prize, especially when power or money is involved.

The Democrats didn't drop the ball. Nixon resigned because he was about to be impeached and then Ford pardoned him, so that there couldn't be any follow up.
