France to Trump: No Paris Agreement, no EU trade agreement

http://www.climatechangenews.com/2018/02/02/france-us-no-paris-agreement-no-trade-agreement-1/

There will be no trade deal between the EU and US if the Trump administration follows through with its threat to withdraw from the Paris climate deal, a French minister said on Thursday.

Speaking to parliament, foreign affairs minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne said: “One of our main demands is that any country who signs a trade agreement with EU should implement the Paris Agreement on the ground. No Paris Agreement, no trade agreement. The US knows what to expect.”

In June 2017, US president Donald Trump announced his intention to withdraw from the Paris Agreement; a move he can only formalise in 2020, according to the the rules of the deal. He has also backed away from policies designed to deliver on US commitments to the accord.

Talks between the US and EU over the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTip) stalled in 2016 and have failed to revive under the Trump administration, with both sides unwilling to raise it in talks last year.

So there is no one I have met that has fallen for his routine. Sure, you hear of the odd extreme rightist in the UK, Poland or Hungary who thinks he's swell, because they see a parallel between his stance in Latin American immigration and European coping with immigration from the Near East, as well as Eastern European migration from other EU countries westward.

But there is no mass media screaming rightist lies 24/7 here (yet--Poland is trending there) the way Fox does, so there is no dumbed-down mass of people clamoring for mass stupidity and corruption to take the reins of government. Germany still has laws against public dissemination of Nazi-like propaganda, and a foreign intruder like Fox would get added scrutiny, especially considering its world-wide reputation for distortion and track record of outright lies.
