(60,348 posts)I gave up shoveling or blowing snow last year. Don't regret that one bit.
I hate it when the air makes my face hurt.

(7,846 posts)That taught me that you have to know which way the wind's blowing.
But I cling to the thought that shoveling is good aerobic exercise. It is, and it reminds me of how the climate used to work.
But I also have a reel mower for the lawn. I'm probably just strange.

(2,916 posts)Shoveling can be a very intense workout! I haven't had to shovel snow for years, but I used to do in front of my house and my neighbor's house and her stairs because she was at least 90 years old and I was always afraid she'd slip while getting her mail at the top of her stairs.

(7,846 posts)If the snow goes on forever, I shovel some, come in and thaw out, and adjust my schedule to fit the circumstances. And I reaped my reward recently when the postman was able to deliver a package on the porch without having to wade through major drifts. I said I shoveled for everybody who might visit, but especially delivery guys. He said they appreciate it.
But there's no question that winter makes everything go slower: put on extra clothes, take them off, go somewhere after creating a path to the street, put on extra clothes, take them off, dry gloves on heat register, sweep snow off rug, throw in sink, put on extra clothes, take them off. So far this year, I haven't lost a hat or glove. I'm doing well.
