Former Obama Campaign Manager on Morning Joe: 'All Public Pollsters Should Be Shot'

Appearing on Morning Joe, Jim Messina — a former White House senior staffer who served as President Barack Obama‘s campaign manager in 2012 — spoke with Joe Scarborough about the importance (or, more specifically, the irrelevance) of generic polls so far out from the election.

“The generic ballots don’t matter until August of the election year, that’s what history teaches us,” Messina said. “What you care more about is passionate intensity. When I ran President Obama’s campaign, the number I looked at everyday was intensity. Are my voters more motivated than Republican voters?…Don’t go generic. It’s going to jump all over the place.”

Fair enough. That seems like a cogent, rational, level-headed response to Scarborough’s inquiry. But then Messina took it up a notch…or twelve.

“Joe, you know how I feel about public polls,” Messina said. “I think all public pollsters should be shot.”

and he is usually right. I always ignore the polls around election time since they can be skewed and aren't an accurate representation of what they are supposed to represent.
