It could be someone working very closely with the generals.
A good start for a military "coup" is a large military "parade", where the military is put on a pedestal and glorified by the "Leader". Who would dare criticize them after such a display of appreciation?
As of last count, there has not been a lot of resistance from the leaders of our military. They are making plans to go forward.
Definitely something we should keep our eyes on and to be vigilant about.
Nothing is impossible in these times.

(5,737 posts)Also, don't worry about a coup. There are more in our military that took that oath that actually believe what the oath meant, than those that do not.

And, with Trump as President,
I'd keep my eye on Colonel Sanders.

I think it would be less attended than his inauguration, kind of like the attendance at an airshow.
Not to minimize the authoritarianism he's displaying and intending, but I don't see any movement of troops anxious to strut their stuff around D.C. like peacocks, much less any intention to be some protection force for a Trump regime.
This is theater, and I agree that it's similar to early stages of fascism in other countries, but Trump is less a nationalist leader than he is a forced caricature of one. I don't believe our military is so devoid of character and virtue that they're willing to flame out for this ignorant braggart vaping off of their sacrifices.
