This year has been one "Rubicon" after another. The thing that defines it is that NOTHING matters! So how come this mattered? How come the White House got swept up in the MeToo wave? Don't get me wrong. I'm tickled that it did. But puzzled too.

(19,429 posts)He could probably have been fired, since he was in a relatively high position, and the notoriety affected the organization.
I would think that a low level government employee cannot be fired for spousal abuse unless it has resulted in a misdemeanor conviction.
Most low level employees in corporations could not be fired under the same circumstances. HR would fear the wrongful termination lawsuits.
And I doubt that union contracts or civil service regulations would allow firing without a criminal conviction of some sort.

(5,469 posts)The ex-girlfriend works for the federal government and after seeing Porter remaining at WH for over a year, she contacted the exes to confirm that they had reported his abusive behavior to FBI. She then contacted Don McGahn and FBI. When it was apparent he was being protected in his position, the three of them apparently then reached out to media, getting Daily Mail to report before any American media outlet cleared the story.
Linda Chavez, who worked in Bush Admin, stated that Kelly should resign and Porter should be investigated for lying to FBI.
