No lobbying, no advertising, no threading the needle to please both Second Amendment people and gun safety proponents... just a pure and simple fund.
I know that it's not solely the NRA that has political power in this area--in a lot of districts, politicians can't piss off their hunters and hobbyists--but so much of the NRA's power is financial. Would it make sense to have a fund that is solely for the purpose of offering big donations to politicians who vote in favor of gun safety?
We are all SO DAMN TIRED of seeing this happen, over and over and over and over and over, knowing that it will happen again, over and over and over and over... but as individuals we are powerless. Most of the population of this country is on the side of gun safety, but the minority with the gun money are the firewall. Pumping up outrage does nothing. Money gets sh*t done.

(13,776 posts)I think LonePirate made a really good point about the vast sums of money that the NRA has, but I do think that a fund with no political agenda other than to counteract the NRA would appeal to a whole lot of people. Like, a LOT of people.
