(11,611 posts)When I was in middle/high school these mass shootings were starting to happen with a little more frequency. It was still shocking and wasn't happening every other day like it is now. I'm no longer shocked by this anymore. Just disgusted.

(35,340 posts)We also didn't have millions of semi-auto military weapons and every nut job with a concealed carry gun.
I don't remember guns being such a problem until I would say the 1980s and it has become worse every year.
I am 69.

(115,719 posts)was having some kid go off the rails and shoot up the place. The primary dangers in high school in those days were being described unflatteringly in some mean girl's slam book and the mystery meat in the cafeteria. Nobody even thought about guns. Some parents (including mine) had them for hunting but I never heard of anyone bringing a gun to school. Smoking in the bathroom was the worst thing most kids ever did.

I know it was in the 1980s, much higher.

(4,492 posts)When I was in school the shootings were starting to ramp up. Columbine was less than a year after I graduated.
I know nothing about this shooter, but I did see how schools let certain kids slip through the cracks (I was one of them) and did nothing about bullying.
