Confederate flags banned at Farm Fair (NJ)

After controversy last year about Confederate flags spotted at the Burlington County Farm Fair, county officials announced Wednesday that any display of the flag will be prohibited at future fairs.
The Burlington County Farm Fair Association recently approved rules and regulations stating that "the display of any sign, flag, including the Confederate battle flag, or banner that may be construed as offensive to the general public, such as but not limited to those containing obscene material or language, is strictly prohibited," officials announced.
A copy of the new policy was sent to the Burlington County Board of Freeholders late last month with a letter from fair manager Rosemary Kay. Although it specifically deals with the operation of motorized equipment and participation in the fairs parades, including tractors, automobiles and other machines, the prohibition applies to the entire fairgrounds off Jacksonville Road and Route 206 in Springfield ...
"Like many of our county residents and visitors, I was disheartened and concerned that the Confederate flag was displayed by attendees at last years Farm Fair. While I greatly respect the right to free speech, there is no place in our society for images depicting intolerance and hatred," Freeholder Director Kate Gibbs said. "I am pleased the fairs organizers have taken action to prevent this from ever happening again" ...
