I think of those parents and my own two full-grown children and the despair and horror comes flooding in. (One of mine is a teacher. The other lives and works in a big city and routinely flies).

There are wars around the world where parents live that terror minute by minute, but what we have here should be preventable. We do not need every citizen, cop or otherwise, armed for modern warfare.

All of my neighbors are hunters with gun collections. I've never worried a second about any of them. I would worry if one of them started assembling an arsenal of assault rifles, bump stocks and other paramilitary gear.

We have to stop arming crazy people. We have to stop making it easy to get weapons only the military needs.
