PARKLAND STUDENT: "Please don't pray for me. Your prayers do nothing. Show me you care in the polls"

Cameron Kasky
10 hrs ·
Sitting in front of a computer now. Just now got home. Might be able to post some semi-clear thoughts. Today was awful. Today was a tragedy. Today, thousands of people within one square block felt pain and confusion.. had no idea what to do or what was happening. I was locked in a room with about 20 kids and a teacher (there were two other adults, but they were specialists for some special needs kids who also found shelter where we did.) Everybody was saying different things, everybody was spreading rumors... I heard at least three names dropped as to who the shooter was. We were all so distracted looking at our phones that we forgot somebody was shooting up our school as we spoke. So many people died. So, so many people died. Stoneman Douglas is an amazing school and I couldn't be luckier to go there. We have seriously prepared for this type of event and on many occasions. Without our amazing faculty, there is a good chance many more would have been killed. I'm feeling my #EaglePride really hard right now; I only wish I could feel it under better circumstances.

There are two less obvious awful things here. First of all, Rubio and Scott are about to send their thoughts and prayers. Those guys are garbage and if you voted for them, go to hell. You're just as bad as they are.

Another thing is the social media aspect. First of all, I saw a news station ask a kid to follow them over social media so they could ask him questions DURING the shooting. Hope they all accompany you Scott Rubio and Trump supporters in hell.

Worse than that, I was shown video of people being shot. People bleeding. Dead bodies. All over snapchat. And everybody was seeing and sharing that. Taking a video and showing the police is heroic. Taking a video and sharing with the world? Go to hell with the rest of the people I've sent there in this post.

On a positive note, those lost will never be forgotten and the entire community will come together and remember just how lucky we are to have what we have.

Please don't pray for me. Your prayers do nothing. Show me you care in the polls. Anyone who is reading this is luckier than many people today. Remember that.

Thanks for reading

Putin gave millions to the NRA. He used the NRA to launder his stolen loot and pass it onto Trump and the GOP. You have got to wonder how much of that loot the NRA kept for themselves and used to promote the wonders of readily available weapons.

Trump of course pretends to be pro NRA. He's got to, otherwise all those millions dumped into his coffers by the Russian/NRA connection would look awfully suspicious. The GOP has got to pretend they are pro-easily available weapons. If they don't, then all that money they took from the NRA would look more and more like bribes.

And the result of all this dark money passing through Russia, Putin, the GOP, the NRA, and Trump is mass school shootings.

Both the spellings ruble and rouble are used in English. The form rouble is preferred by the Oxford English Dictionary, but the earliest use recorded in English is the now completely obsolete robble. The form rouble probably derives from the transliteration into French used among the Tsarist aristocracy.

To the NRA scenes of mass fear, mayhem and confusion during these shootings are valuable as well

To them, they are reasons for victims to arm themselves. Good for propaganda, and sales both

Kids are smart enough to understand who's to blame when they look up the GOP let the assault weapon ban expire. Then Trump came into office and they 'll see he made it easier for mentally ill people to get guns, and has cut funding for background checks. These kids are smart enough to know and find this out, and will be voters in time. The GOP are only making more run away from their party, as these kids will be doing. These kids also will know the NRA has trump and the gop in their pocket, to do nothing and get their campaign funding for their re-elections. Kids aren't stupid, they know.

Great post... but I'm 61and can easily say to Cameron and all the rest of the young folks out there that my generation has failed ourselves and you. We cannot be counted on to make the required change happen. It's up to you and your generation to end the fear, hate, phony Christianity, and pro-birth only nonsense. Life is only as sacred as those who are willing to go where the science leads. The rest are bread and circus shows fed to us by corporations and the wealthy. I wonder how many of the parents of these latest victims feel now. Well we already know. It's all a ridiculous exercise in semantics and antiscience till its your kid that's dead.

Pro-life my ass!

I'm 69 and our generation hasn't done enough to stop the NRA.

I have a grandbaby now and I just cannot fathom the pain that comes with a child being shot. What will her future look like if we dont' get off our f***ing asses and DO SOMETHING! Go after all of them - the politicians who take their bloodstained money, the companies that sell these killing machines to anyone and everyone, the laws that allow them to sell them in the first place, the people who vote for these imbeciles, and yes, let's change the Second Amendment to fit with today's society so the ignorant among us cannot parse the meaning of what it stands for.

Unfortunately, I witnessed Rick Scott on television and nearly had to barf. What an ass. Scott passed five different pieces of legislation with the intent of easing accessibility to weapons, and yet he had the unmitigated gaul to stand in front of cameras and pretend that this act of violence disturbed him. And while the GOP and NRA try to convince us that their “ prayers” are coming, they are all COMPLICIT in the genicide going on in this country.
Nothing will be done about this, as with all other mass killings. Nearly all other civilized countries do not experience this insanity. America does because nobody has the GUTS to act on senseless violence.
This is nuts, will continue to be nuts, because our leaders have no nuts.

still vote for these jackasses? This may just be a rhetorical question, but seriously. Are voters so out of touch with the issues or the ramifications of voting for people like Scott that they just pull the lever for anyone regardless of the tainted money they've taken?

Florida is full of older people who are grandparents for chrissakes. Do they really think this could never affect their families?

I'm just shaking my head at all of this.

If you drive through the vacation spots, you're only seeing one side of florida.

The rural communities are very poor, very conservative christian (baptist). Think 'deep south'. No opportunities.

They are voting against their interests, too, as you mention - but in the same way that voters in the deep south vote for republicans: it's what is done. That's 'christian'.

as I've mentioned before, I left the state. Good riddance.

Fri Feb 16, 2018, 07:32 AM
Feb 2018

Top Gear where the British guys come to Miami, Florida. They each buy an old car or truck to drive to Texas, I think.

They decorate their vehicles with silly stuff. One of them writes stuff like "Hillary for President" or more liberal, controversial phrases. In south Florida, no one cares. But as they get to north Florida, the panhandle, south Alabama, the other drivers became much more threatening to that driver, to the point where he had to pull over and wash it off his car. I think he purchased 3 liter containers of soda pop to have something to wash with. He didn't dare wait to find a real car wash.

The episode was funny as hell, but also sad and scary, and embarrassing.

I recognized the goofy walking and the difficulty some of those kids had getting out of the school. This kid couldn't have found a more compassionate group of people to be with.

I'm so sorry that ALL of these children were subjected to such gruesome images on social media. This is, however, a new cultural norm amongst teens.

My kid will have a cell phone next year (he'll be a Senior) but only with phone and text capabilities.

As an aside, my kid's school was supposed to undergo a lockdown drill yesterday (February 15), but it was canceled.
