JFK and Reagan Seen as Best of Modern Presidents

February 15, 2018 at 8:26 am EST By Taegan Goddard

A new University of Virginia Center for Politics/Ipsos poll finds Americans rate John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan as the best of most recent presidents.

Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, the two most recent Democratic presidents, round out the top four, while the current president, Donald Trump, finds himself near the bottom of the ratings.

St. Ronnie was a horrible President. He did horrible things like really screwing over unions and then gutting welfare and mental health care.

But, the GOP is really, really good at PR, marketing and messaging. We need to get so much better at it. They think up these meaningless little MAGA things that sell and it works. We have to do better at it.

We try too hard to ensure the substance of our policies comes through in the messaging. That doesn't work. People don't want to think. That is quite clear. I'm sad to say it, but we have to start scaring the living daylights out of people in some way to get them to vote Democratic.

The schmuck was a crappy excuse for a president.

I wonder how far back "recent" goes. JFK wasn't yet great when he died, but I believe he had the instincts and popularity to have been a great president if he had lived to have a second term.

It's interesting that he continues to be perceived so positively when the Republicans have worked so hard to tear him down in old media.
