Why the AR-15 has become mass murderers', and America's, favourite weapon

The association with mass murder doesn't hinder sales of America's favourite rifle, but in fact helps them

It's the gun that is found in the midst of almost every mass shooting in the US. Despite that, it's also the most popular gun across America – and that's because, not despite, it is such an effective weapon for mass murderers.

The US has an enduring fascination with the AR-15. The interest isn't dulled when the gun is used in the US's mass shootings – every time there is such a killing, panic buyers grab the guns in bulk, and some reports even suggest that fans are motivated in part through the fascination with a weapon that could be used in such a horrific way.

The AR-15 was introduced by Colt in the early 1960s, explicitly aimed as a way of getting deadly assault rifles into the hands of civilians and law enforcement. Getting guns that were previously seen as military weapons into the hands of civilians was a key way of boosting sales – and it worked, with guns like the AR-15 and similar assault rifles becoming hugely popular.

How Many Assault Weapons Are There in America?

https://www.google.com/amp/amp.slate.com/blogs/crime/2012/12/20/assault_rifle_stats_how_many_assault_rifles_are_there_in_america.html

Take the AR-15, the auto-loading rifle that Adam Lanza used at Sandy Hook. The AR-15 is the civilian equivalent of the military M-16 assault rifle. It’s one of the most popular assault-style rifles on the market today.

In 2009, in a declaration made as part of the court case Heller v. District of Columbia, which challenged D.C.’s assault weapons ban, NRA research coordinator Mark Overstreet reported that, from 1986 to 2007, at least 1,626,525 AR-15-style semi-automatic rifles were produced and not exported from the United States. Overstreet suggested that you could use trends in NICS background checks to project future sales of AR-15-style rifles. As of Nov. 30, 2012, the total number of NICS background checks increased by 50.4 percent since the end of 2007. If the number of AR-15 rifles increased similarly, then that means there are at least 2,446,294 AR-15 rifles currently available in the United States.

The pain we see and many feel is analogous to an amputee feeling an itch from a missing limb, but make no mistake, America the country is a soulless shell of the country that was founded on America the idea.

After Newtown, when so many children, so young and so innocent, were barbarously slaughtered and the response in our laws was a collective shrug and move on to the next topic, the country died. What is left is a rotting, stinking fetid corpse of what once was.

I am of the opinion that nothing matters any longer...

Voting?
HA! Prove to me that my vote is actually tallied and registered as I intended it to be and not in the way someone manipulating the voting machine decided it would count.

Innocent lives?
Nope...they matter exactly ZERO if it infringes on the right of every fucking lunatic loner in the nation to gather enough military-style weapons and ammunition to slaughter children and shatter lives they envy or hate.

Campaign financing reform?
Fuck it...when an organization as small (numerically) as the NRA can buy the whores of our elected government for what really amounts to a pittance in the grand scheme of things, what difference does it make anyway? The NRA has more political clout than 90% of the American electorate's wishes...let that sink in real good and think about just how much "representation" we have left in our representative democratic republic.

Staying engaged?
Why the fuck bother? Seriously... Elections are rigged and politicians bought and paid for already for the next 2-3 cycles minimum. The will of the people is no where reflected in the priorities and actions or inactions of the so-called leaders of this shit hole country we inhabit. It's been game over since that mother fucker Wilson screamed "You Lie!" at President Obama and NOTHING happened to him as a consequence...

I'm done.
I'm exhausted mentally and defeated and dead spiritually.

This country is not worth fighting for in its current state. It is time to burn it all to the ground, separate into two or more nations and move on from the failed experiment of governing a herd of cat's where the one's in charge are constantly fed a steady supply of cat nip and the intensity of their doses is proportional to the amount of pain they inflict on the other cats.
