You know what? I think the NRA is pleased when mass shootings occur. Yes I said it.

This benefits them, because all the gun humpers freak out and run out to buy all the shit they think is about to get banned. Either that or they go out and arm to the teeth because they're gonna defend 'Murica. Either way, the gun manufacturers make bank, and the NRA is nothing more than the lobbyists for the gun industry.

What's a few dead kids if there's MONEY to be made?

The NRA really doesn't give a shit about "rights." If they weren't making money stoking the flames or from being in bed with gun manufacturers, they would close up shop. I can remember way back when, their primary focus was gun safety. Now, their primary focus is whipping up gun owners into an imagined frenzy. They are probably happy that this happened right now, since gun sales have gone WAY down since Trump was elected.

But, as I have been thinking about this today.... As a small first step, I would like to see some members of Congress come out and say that they will not accept NRA blood money.

There are probably some, maybe even many, who adhere to their consciences, but then there are those like Ernst, Rubio and many others who rake in thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the "gun lobby."

Actions speak louder than words, republicans. Stop the hand-wringing and DO SOMETHING ALREADY.

How does the man generally regarded as the "dumbest person in the US Senate" get re-elected over Russ Feingold? Bags and bags of NRA blood money, in part.

For precisely that reason: increased gun sales in the wake of mass shootings...

Because they don't want a different result.

If you're an NRA stooge, and you want to deny that you like seeing a dozen or more corpses from the latest mass shooting event, then you fit the definition of insanity. And I don't feel obliged to respond to either the cruel or the crazy.
