Shutting down the government for DREAMers would be political malpractice

shutting it down for a repeal of the lawthat protects gun makers and/or a ban on magazines that hold more than 5 high caliber rounds would fuck the GOP good and hard.

We should be using every possible bit of leverage on both points. Don't need to give up one to get the other.

Unfortunately, we gave away the "government shutdown" leverage when we agreed to the most recent budget deal.

One leaves us open to shutting down the whole government for an imprtant but arguably narrow interest. The other forces them into that position, and their narrow interest is extremely impopular.
