Easy access to guns, a culture of violence, the fantasy gun culture itself, and lack of access to mental health care all play rolls in mass shootings. Or at least for many of them. But what about the media's roll in how we cover them? Modern news media is more entertainment than news and has turned into a form of disaster pornography. I'm not arguing of course for no coverage as these are important news stories. But I can't help but feel that modern infotainment news isn't part of the sickness.

(6,154 posts)I understand one is fantasy one is reality, IMHO that's only even more reason to show it. The reality of the horror isn't real until you are shown it. Less of the murderers face, more of the victims. Yes it's hard to look at, it's SUPPOSED TO BE!

Anderson Cooper keeps saying he will not show their faces or mention their names.
Chris Cuomo said the same thing this morning.
Five minutes after Cuomo made that statement today, they cut to another CNN talking head who, take a guess, MENTIONED THE KILLER'S NAME!
They need to stop glorifying these cowards who kill children.
