(43,182 posts)My dog growing up was a Golden Retriever. She never failed at being sweet and loving in a low key way.

(3,194 posts)This good doggie goes about his business after each tragedy, not knowing or understanding the reasons for his companionship being necessary.
Sometimes I wish on days like today, I could be oblivious like a dog, not having to face reality and all it's horrors.

(43,163 posts)Their innocence is lost. Studies and school and social life will never seem the same nor seem as important. Or so i would think.
Or maybe they have more resilience than I ever had.

(63,912 posts)my room each night and slept on the floor beside my bed. She knew I was sick and needed her presence (she wanted to jump up on the bed and lick my face but I drew the line at that...). Ever since then I have believed every claim that these dogs know what needs to be done.

(63,221 posts)That being said, there is nothing like a dog's love and affection when you are hurting. The instinctively know how you feel and what you need. Words rarely comfort, but a dog's gentle cuddles and kisses can do so much to heal your heart. Even the way they look at you lets you know that they understand how you feel without any words being exchanged. Dogs are just the most amazing creatures. Thank you, sweet Jacob for all the hearts you are healing!

(10,303 posts)It's more effective IMO than "thoughts and prayers". They help people feel better. I put them in the same category as grief counsellors in terms of effectiveness in doing anything.
But animals can't draft not pass laws. This dog has done more than every Republican member of Congress to solve the problem.

(3,208 posts)the disregard for the environment, the expensive access to higher education, etc. etc.
it is still within the power of dogs (and cats, whether they want to admit it or not) to remind us of love and care and attention and concern. They aren't even our species and they are helping us more than we are helping each other!
We are all connected! Equal!
