Was the worst mass murder in the US due to mental illness?

NO! Last Aug. in Las Vegas 58 people were murdered with guns from a single shooter who had no history of mental illness, was not an ISIS member or terrorist, was not affiliated with known hate groups, etc...

Explain how you are going to stop that in the future Mr. Sessions...with prayers?

Even if somebody waved a magic wand and made guns impossible per the laws of physics there would still be psychos out there finding ways to kill people in bulk.

We can't stop all auto injuries but with legislation controlling who uses cars and how as well as how they are made fewer people are hurt even as more people drive.

Gun makers are using technology older than any mass produced auto in the world and willfully resist any improvements. As a result more people are hurt by guns per capita every year even as gun ownership declines.

If I were king I could cut gun injuries by 70% in ten years. How? Ban all possession of semi auto guns. Mandatory permit to purchase of guns with a background check by local law enforcement. Mandatory safety training before issue of permit to purchase. Safe storage laws with jail time for violation. Zero tolerance for parents/legal guardians allowing children access to guns with jail time.

Why 10 years? It will take about that long for all the gun nuts to kill each other off.

That disturbed individuals will find a way to "kill people in bulk." The usual argument is "cars kill more people in the U.S. than guns."

So, believing that it's hopeless, then nothing can be done, so why bother? People are going to kill each other in massive numbers with or without guns. So we live with it. 49 people killed. 58 people killed. 17 people killed. Year after year it goes. No other country in the world has this particular sickness, where a potential killer can walk into a gun shop and purchase a military-type rifle, one that is *specifically designed* to inflict death and major damage to other human beings.

Doing nothing is not an acceptable form of action.

people who received disability benefits because of mental illness. If your mental illness is severe enough to prevent you from working, it should also prevent you from owning a gun.

This young man might not have been in that category, but millions of others are.

Their actions are rather insane.

But we need gun control. We need it like 30 years ago. It's insane.

The shooters rarely live.

It will be interesting to see the gun humpers contort themselves with the "mental health" is the problem excuse while trying to put this kid in the electric chair. They will have to say they are ok executing a mental patient. Wait, who was the last group to advocate that?
