I hate to say it, but it's like a fucking broken record. Each time one of these tragedies occurs, it's the same damned script. To what end? NOTHING WILL CHANGE! The media gets up and reports tragedy after tragedy, wasting countless hours discussing why it happened, what could have been done, what could be done, what is reasonable to be done, etc, etc.
Then.......................................NOTHING!! This will be over by next Wednesday, all except for the funerals and nightmares the witnesses to this incident will have for their remaining days on earth.
In a few weeks, the media will send their top reporters out to a different state. Another school.....or church.....or mall.....or concert....or fast food restaurant.....or freeway....or nightclub......or office building.....and so on.

(13,081 posts)Like multiple trainings, rehearsals, and scenarios throughout every school year is the right direction. Never ask questions about the precious guns, because that might rile up a small but extremely vocal minority.

(764 posts)Over all I respect most newscasters and understand they are in important part in telling us the truth about our government but they seem to exhibit the same noncommercial excitement post mass shooting as they do post hurricane. I am no expert but I think the serial killers use this possible attention they might get from the media as a motivator to help them decide to take a life.
By all accounts this was a weak little dweeb who had no power. Now look at all the attention he is getting. This attention is power and its planting seeds in other susceptible little minds across the US.

(764 posts)What purpose does that serve? I believe THAT is some medial manipulation bullshit and They ARE playing with our minds and also save them money they don't have to write a story just let the talking airheads flap impromptu.

(14,857 posts)They hope you'll crave new information so much that you'll leave it on after they start running the ads again, just in case they break in with something new. Never mind that they'll repeat any old rumour they get wind of, just to have something NEW!!! to report.
We must never, ever forget that their customers are the advertisers, and we are the product they deliver to their customers.

I think a news black out on the persons name would help, keep them anonymous and let them rot in jail, unknown.

(37,748 posts)The media's coverage of weather is guilty of the same... a broken record, nothing changes, dame damned script, weather is always weather and nothing can change it. Why oh why, dear Lord does the media waste its time reporting weather. By next week, another storm or flood or hurricane or cold front will kill many people.
Wash... rinse... repeat.
