For teachers across America, these shootings trigger PTSD

The shock, pain, and horror is renewed exponentially every time a new school shooting hits the news. The news about fallen teachers and students over and over and over. Same outcomes. Same excuses. Same sorry platitudes from politicians and pundits.

We did nothing after a deranged individual murdered little children in a grade school or after disturbed teens killed their own classmates in high schools, and in colleges across the country. And we've done nothing since. We surrendered the fight over guns in this country and sacrificed our kids in the process. It's shameful.

And everytime another school shooting happens, the teachers of America will have to go back to their schools and face frightened students who ask why. I don't have an answer for them anymore. Just a terrific lump in my throat that will not go away.

Where have all the children gone?
Long time passing.
Where have all the children gone?
Long time ago.
Where have all the children gone?
Killed by gun laws everyone.
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?
