There is a quiet fellow who usually just eats his lunch in the local restaurant. He usually never says anything to anybody. Just eats and leaves. I don't even know his politics.
About a dozen Romney supporters were in there yucking it up about how Romney was going to win big.
This guy calmly pulled out his wallet and counted out 10 one hundred dollar bills and laid them on the counter in front of him.
Then he asked the group of Obama haters if any one of them wanted to bet a thousand dollars that President Obama would not win this election he would cover the bet. Said if someone wanted to take the bet he would let the restaurant owner hold the cash until after the election.
There wasn't one taker.
It was a marvelous thing to witness.

I see people all day long (Computer work in their homes) and usually the
right-wing people, here in Florida, are not doing very well when it comes to finances...

(14,799 posts)about the same bunch of guys. Back when Clinton was running and when Obama was running. He' was going off on how they were gunna git our guns. I bet called him on it. $500 bucks says, you don't get any guns confinscated. Four years or eight years, not one! He wouldn't take it either time.
I did stipulate that he couldn't do anything stupid to cause the cops to take his guns. He'd be a candidate for brandishing a gun in a road rage incident or something like that some day.

(6,286 posts)with one of the resident RWers here at work. He is convinced that Romney will have the ACA repealed if he wins. I say no way.
He was even foolish enough to not qualify the bid with respect to the makeup of the Congress. He's sure that Romney, if he manages to pull off a win, will have enough groundswell to steamroll any Democratic opposition. The rules of the bet are 1) that Romney has 2 years to do it. (Since he said he'd do it on day one, that shouldn't be a problem. ), and
2) that the law has to be outright repealed, not saddled with amendments and otherwise tweaked.
If Romney loses and the bet is off, great. If he wins, at least I can take solace in the fact that I will make the easiest $200 ever. This guy might be a RWer, but he's pretty straight about honoring promises. I have no doubt he'll pay me if he loses. And I will reciprocate if need be.
But I don't think I will have to - here is my rationale as to why the ACA will stand: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002891537

(9,866 posts)And they will not be really incentivized to get out the vote for Romney.
It's not that they didn't really think Romney wouldn't win. It's just that they couldn't put 100 in escrow. The guy is a rich guy--who walks around with 1000 dollars?--and he dominated them through his greater wealth.
The Doctor.
(17,266 posts)Wingnuts LOVE to brag, boast, and generally just make noise about things, but as soon as they are forced to face reality, they suddenly realize they may be in over their heads.
Take the tea-partier on social security who says he wants to abolish social programs. Ask him to sign a petition saying that he wants to get rid of such 'government largesse' and personally wants nothing to do with any government 'hand outs' or social programs of any kind. Watch him sign it with gusto and a smile, put on a real show of what a 'stand on his own two feet' guy he is. Then tell him, and everyone that signed it how proud you are of their self-sufficiency and independence from government hand-outs and how you're going to make sure that every name on the list goes straight to the social security and medicare offices so they know how independent and unwilling to take tax dollars all the signers are....
Then watch his face.
No, what this guy in the restaurant did was force those twits to actually think of all the stupid shit Romney has said and done, and about what his chances really are.
And they didn't like the reality they were forced to face.

(18,219 posts)Well, it is possible that this guy hears these assholes spouting off day in and day out, and he purposely got this money together just to do this. He may not usually have that kind of money on him. I can see that. He certainly has shut them up, and I bet he will be able to eat in peace from now on....they will start talking about the weather when he walks in.

Money really TALKS to those kinds of people so that fellow just really destroyed their confidence in Romney as a winner.

(6,160 posts)I used to eat lunch almost every day in my small town locally owned meat and 3 diner.
There was a big round table where a bunch of men congregated and discussed politics. One of them rambled on and on about great things the Republicans in office were doing.
My friend and I usually sat at a table next to them and I listened to this guy until one day I could not take it any more. He spouted off some idiotic political lie. I spoke up.
I said loud enough for about half the restaurant to hear me: "You know what? You are just like every other Republican I have ever met. You are full of shit!"
About half the restaurant erupted in loud laughter. He hung his head and left quickly. He still ate there periodically, but I never heard him say another political thing.
