The $445 million a year United States military prison at Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba is little more than a symbolic money pit.
While the prison currently has 1,700 military and civilian employees, only 41 prisoners remain there.

(1,718 posts)1. One of Obama's most disappointing failures
He really dropped the ball on this. The only opportunity we had over the past century to finally close it, and now it's gone.

Is it really Obama's failure ?
He did what he could but he wasn't the master of cards, otherwise, Guantanamo would have been closed a long time ago.

(6,922 posts)4. When do you imagine the Guantanamo prison opened
and why do you claim it could only be closed at a specific time? Do you even know what Guantanamo prison is?
A hint-Guantanamo prison was established in 2002, less than a score of years ago, so no one could have closed it before it opened.
Perhaps you are confusing the naval base with the prison, in which case Obama did not want to close it.
