for the Miss Universe pageant, and when the alleged pee tape, if real, was made. He had considered running for president as early as 1988, and actually did run in 2000 in the Reform Party's primary. He also very publicly considered running as a Republican in 2012 but decided against it only after The Apprentice was renewed. So by 2014 the Russians were aware that he had long been interested in running, and who's to say they didn't "persuade" him with a little kompromat?
