Gov Walker, Republicans and Foxconn Raids Great Lakes Water

This really affects all the states surrounding the Great Lakes. Please call your senators and Rep if you live surrounding the Great Lakes.

I got this as an email:

Dear xxx

You knew it all along. Foxconn came for one thing: your Great Lakes water. Sure enough, Gov. Scott Walker and his allies want to let the multinational corporation suck seven million gallons a day of Great Lakes water through the City of Racine
– with no information on what pollutants the mega-plant will release into the water, and with no publicly released plans to treat the wastewater.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is taking public comment on the application for the diversion plan until March 21st. They need to understand what’s at risk if this plan is approved
. Sign the statement opposing this unprecedented attempt to raid the Great Lakes, and we’ll deliver it to the Department of Natural Resources!

ACT NOW AND SIGN OUR PETITION: No diversion of our Great Lakes water for Foxconn!

The Great Lakes hold 90 percent of America’s freshwater – that’s 20 percent of the world’s supply. The diversion plan of Great Lakes water for private industry use is a betrayal of the core intent of the Great Lakes Compact. The compact keeps Great Lakes water safe from exploitation by companies just like Foxconn. ADD YOUR NAME NOW: Stand up for Great Lakes water!

ADD YOUR NAME

Walker’s reckless deal allowing Foxconn to raid our Great Lakes water is an attempt to degrade the Great Lakes Compact – perhaps the greatest conservation achievement in the region of the last 50 years.

It wasn’t enough for Walker to hand Foxconn a check for $4.5 billion of our tax money,
it wasn’t enough to allow Foxconn to trample on our wetlands – now he’s giving away our Great Lakes water .

SIGN THE PETITION: Say NO to the unprecedented water diversion plan for Foxconn!

Thank you,

I'm in Chicago and this PISSES ME OFF. I donate to the Alliance for the Great Lakes; I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about this from them yet.

The Yellow River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, and it's levels seem to drop every year. The air in China is so bad a non-trivial percent of the population wear masks when outside, and many peeps have runny noses and eyes from the pollution. The government of China claims to be doing some things, but the situation does not appear to be improving...

I can only conclude that Chinese companies, in general, do not care about pollution; rather, their focus seems to be on "means of production".
