Investigators say Landrum put the two children in her Lincoln and drove north to Bay County, where she stopped at an industrial park. She picked a spot off the main road and that's when police say she shot Mikayla and DJ in the head, then turned the gun on herself.

Mothers kill their kids in their homes. There was NO ONE in the home to stop her if she wanted to kill her kids...why drive to some secluded warehouse?
Mother drives to some secluded location unknown to anyone in the family to kill her kids and herself?
I am sorry..I am calling foul!

(6,913 posts)One died, one survived but is in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, one more survived and eventually testified. The surviving children were adopted by the Deputy DA who prosecuted their mother.

(5,611 posts)Mother will or wont do (it is also about the limits of law enforcement). It is a devastating and powerful documentary. And there have been many cases of mothers murdering their own children, and it doesnt always happen at home.

She was probably thinking about it and thinking about it.
So, she got in the car to think about it more....
You could also be correct too. I don't anything about this case or what evidence they have. It is fairly easy to determine who fired the gun that killed the mother. Suicides to the brain usually have certain trajectory paths, and usually the gun is locked in the shooter's clenched fist.
angstlessk
(11,862 posts)I guess I don't want to believe the mother did this, though others have.
LeftInTX
(25,287 posts)Also position of body and trajectory.
People have tried using a suicide defense when they have murdered someone. The prosecutors always point to bullet trajectory and the fact that the gun was not in the person's clenched fist. One woman murdered her husband in bed and claimed he committed suicide. They said the angle of trajectory was wrong.

(11,862 posts)When has a mother taken her kids to a remote place and killed them and herself?
NEVER
She has killed them, just not herself.
This is all preliminary...not the final conclusion

(9,527 posts)Or using faulty logic like a responder wasn't there and so can't know what happened, when you're in the same boat.
Also claiming rather bizarrely that this is unprecedented, when there are clearly other similar cases.

And those are just ones I could find quickly that specifically matched a mother killing her child(ren) and then herself and not at home. Sorry to burst your bubble, but yeah it happens.

I always thought OJ was guilty because why kill your victims outside when you could have killed them inside and not risked being seen by a neighbor? To which my answer was: because your kids are sleeping upstairs and it's just a knee-jerk thing to not want the violence that close to them.
