The one clearest message from the film is that the NRA has become one man's empire, and it now exists only to gratify his greed for power. LaPierre's message of anti-government paranoia isn't aimed at hunters or sportsmen -- it's aimed at right-wing extremists fearful of their own government because of imagined secret plots to grab their guns. LaPierre didn't just decide to follow that parade of crazies, he ran out in front and decided to lead it. The results for this country have been tragic. LaPierre truly, deeply, does not care, and the people he leads are oblivious to their idiot usefulness.
