And politically, a ginormous FU to those seeking to keep or change to privatized healthcare.

(11,421 posts)National Health Service in our faces on the world stage. Don't they know health care is a privilege not a right. If only we had a republican president right now so he could send over a drone attack and stop that show right now. Why and the hell didn't our owners of the media pull the plug during that god awful show of entitlements.

(1,831 posts)The health care debacle in this country is an excellent example of the greed of our corporate masters, and the ignorance of the right's voting base.
Obvious huge financial savings aside. We can afford to take care of our people.

(62,325 posts)to their 'socialist' National Health Care System. It was magnificent. The whole world got to see it including Republicans here who insist that HC is not a right, and as Alan Grayson said, if you can't afford it 'then die quickly'.
What a contrast to see a country celebrate the fact that they have a National HC System.
Maybe some day we too will be able to do that.

(16 posts)We are first going to have to show some tough love to those that donât want it.
Step one, repeal the mandates, those that donât want to play donât have to play.
Step two, change the laws on mandatory treatment in an ER. If you do not have insurance or donât have the cash in your pocket for treatment (no checks or credit cards), TS they donât have to treat you at all.
When Billy Jim Bob Bubba Bagger gets a heart attack from shoving trans fats down his gullet 24/7 and he refused to buy insurance gets turned away at the ER and dies shortly after, the lesson will be learned. After enough of the hardheaded ones die off in a year or two, we will have Universal HC in America.
If we want change we are going to have to institute a policy of tough love on the regressives once they suffer the consequences of their stupidity enough they will be beggaring for change or they will simply die off and their numbers will be reduced which will be reflected in voting.
This can also be sold as a jobs stimulus, cemeteries and funeral homes will do a brisk business with the hardheaded.

(16,230 posts)This was the British celebrating something they're proud of. Why do we think that everything is about us?
The segue from Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital (Hospital for Sick Children), the inheritor of the legacy of James Matthew Barrie, was so natural as to be unavoidable. At that point, NHS is a prominent HISTORICAL development that is essential to the entire theme of the Opening Ceremony.
No staged, abridged, infotainment treatment of the peacetime aspects of British history could possibly avoid Barrie and NHS. It'd be criminal.

(62,325 posts)that takes care of its people's health needs and one that doesn't. Doesn't matter whether it was intended or not.
Of course if we had our own National Health Care System we would simply have enjoyed the show. Since we don't, it simply highlighted the difference.
