I pleaded with him to vote no on her, saying that I feared she was going to destroy public education and kowtow to for-profit education and taxpayer-funded religion schools.

I got a boilerplate response back from him assuring me that in hearings Betsy had vowed that she would not do anything to disrupt public schools and that he felt she would be an excellent person for the job. Boy did she do a con job on everyone!
