(37,648 posts)I guess that's how badly Tillerson wanted the job to add to his credentials. He was Sec'y of State...but not really. He wasn't allowed to do anything or even have a full staff. He was publicly ridiculed. Trump humiliated him in tweets.
Tillerson was a big guy. The head of Exxon. A "friend of Russia" with a medal to prove it. He didn't need this. Why? I don't get it.

(10,279 posts)Instead, he worked on crap, like tension in Korea, peace in Africa. He just could not focus on the sanctions.

(37,648 posts)The sanctions were never done. Trump didn't need a Secy of State for that.

(10,279 posts)To collect his "thank you" bonus from Exxon, the deal had to go thru. That required the Obama sanctions being revoked. The Sec. of State can walk into the office of any member of congress and talk deals he could make in exchange for votes to remove the sanctions. No other member of the Administration had such access and govt budget to do it. But, it did not happen because Tilley is too timid to sell such enormously corrupt deals. He probably got rebuffed by several important members of congress and was too discouraged to keep trying. So he failed Trump and Putin in their plan to make a lot of money in bring Russian oil to market, and he failed his own self interest to get his Exxon bonus.

(19,956 posts)do, as both he and Trump were outflanked by Congress, who by 496-4 passed the extra sanctions. While Trump has failed to implement those extra sanctions, it meant that he couldn't then unwind the current sanctions. Since that was all Tillerson was clearly there for, he was of no further use.

(10,279 posts)and had to be tossed under the bus. Failure is not acceptable. And, when Pompeo fails to get the sanctions lifted, he also will get tossed under the bus. Let's not forget that the Sec. of State has functional authority to make corrupt deals with members of congress that are not possible for the president to make. The Sec. of State is a walking, talking candyman. Not getting deals done means you did not offer enough.

(37,648 posts)It's reliant only on his not returning to the oil business for 10 years, is what I read.

(53,410 posts)and he has no love for regular people. Lies are highly useful things in his line of business.
Every word out of his mouth is measured. Spontaneous words die before they get to his tongue. Hes as narcissistic as Trump and Putin and hes now no longer on good terms with them since he didnt deliver on the oil in the arctic circle. He may be ready to slit his own throat at his failure as CEO of Exxon but he will lie to the bitter end.

(53,410 posts)but that was passed on by someone else.
My fervent hope is that Tillersen will want to get even and tell us a few damning things about Trump. It wont be for the good of our country, of course, but it might just help our country.

(14,150 posts)..... and Russian collusion/conspiracy was never investigated because no one suspected a thing. Oh boy .... Oh boy.... Putin, Tillerson, tRdump and their band of thieving bandits would have been very very rich men.
But they couldn't hide the dead bodies and incriminating evidence fast enough. tRdump is used to operating in the shadows without all that pesky oversight and scrutiny so team tRdump inadvertently got caught in the trap of Putin's making.
Of course it was nearly humanly impossible for Putin to conceive what a total asshole he hooked his fortunes to - as a clown such as tRdump.
For all parties concerned - with team Mueller at the helm - and dogged investigatory journalism by some in media - this was a grand exercise in failure and futility. Hopefully with the major players ending up behind bars enjoying their extended incarceration with their assets clawed back by the government.

(53,410 posts)They didnt count on the well lit scrutiny of their every action. And evidently a year of the unrelenting focus of that light didnt teach them anything. They just think they can ignore it.
Im sure theyre convinced it wont make a difference in their pursuit of wealth.

Tillerson was bought and paid for and he just got some examples of Putin's payback over in the UK.
