But both sides took away something they wanted from that war and both sides lost something they had before that war.
It was a stupid way to solve problems.

(42,290 posts)That taking Canada was "a mere matter of marching". In other words, he expected the residents of Upper and Lower Canada would abandon England and join the Americans in their "radical" experiment of self-government.
The afore-mentioned residents had different ideas. They knew they weren't Americans and they knew they were not exactly British property, either.
Thus was born the idea of Canada as a sovereign nation. It was a VERY significant achievement for Canadians. Not so much for the British.
