.... people with long hair that basically look alike??
I breathe a sigh of relief when Judy Woodruff or Andrea Mitchell or that lady that covers the pentagon show up.

(31,112 posts)double standard, the misogyny we operate from has different rules for women.
So I dont criticize women who have to play the game, no matter which side they are on.

(1,474 posts)female talking heads always seem to wear clothing that reveals much skin. If that is their choice, I am fine with it. If it is the corporate policy I object to it being sexist and dismissive to women's intellect. Men wear suits or at least shirts that do not expose their chest and arms. They do not wear dresses. I love looking at beautiful women, but watching the news I much prefer their intelligence. One of the reasons I like Rachael Maddow so much is that she wears casual, working clothes.
Again, if this is the choice of the woman, great. But I suspect they are often required to dress in a semi-revealing way.

HA! Now THAT is a sexist statement! No way, no how that Stephanie Ruhle or Katie Tur, or Kacie Hunt, or Joy Reid comply with someone telling them to dress provocatively. I agree that there are many times I wonder wth they are thinking when they dress in the morning, but I think this is a matter of their personal taste, which I may not like.
Let's celebrate their diversity, k?

(1,474 posts)Fox news - a bad example, I know - often shows women in short skirts. On MSNBC, Mika often wears clothing exposing much more skin than do the men. I know it is often only arms, but still it is more revealing. MSNBC used to have a show with Alex Wagner. She was a very smart woman, but often dressed in a much more revealing way than men.
Again, if this is the woman's choice, I am fine with it. I would bet that FOX requires women to dress in a certain way. MSNBC has many strong women that I do believe dress as they like, but I still believe that women are sometimes forced to look pretty whereas men are not.

(9,580 posts)and on top of that she wears a scarf wrapped around her neck. She's what ... 50 or so? Are you sure you don't have a prejudice against attractive women?
As far as Fox goes, they are fucked up in every way imaginable and I don't watch them.
I watch MSNBC and CNN occasionally. Women aren't forced to do shit. YMMV.
Too many women newscasters dress like they are going to a cocktail party, showing far too much skin, while their male counterparts have on long sleeve shirts, ties, and jackets. Someone is either freezing or roasting to death.
If you are reporting the news, clothes, jewelry, makeup, etc should not be a distraction. I don't know if they are "required to dress in a semi-revealing way", aside from Fox, of course, but it is possible some feel compelled to be competitive when it comes to appearance.
Katy Tur, Hallie Jackson, Kasie Hunt, and Rachel Maddow all dress in an understated fashion, keeping the attention on the story or commentary.

(27,811 posts)On the other hand, it's almost like a uniform, a way of blending in, so I don't know what the answer is. Male anchors all dress alike, a lot of them have the same hair. I hate how a lot of sportscasters (male) have televangelist hair.

(5,210 posts)Shudder.
I'm tired of seeing them too. Also tired of some of the ways they dress. Call me old-fashioned, I like a nice, business suit or dress. They have a professional job, I'd like to see professional dress.

(9,580 posts)When younger, even in my 40s & early 50s, I'd venture to say I was pretty average as far as looks go - but as I look back at pictures, I think I was really quite attractive. I've decided that this fact is due to being young(ish), smooth skin, a decent body (no middle aged spread yet) plus some good hair dye and a young attitude.
Jeebus, let's not hold a young woman's attractiveness against her. Or more importantly, let's not hold her young age against her.
I find the OP's statement is also true of the men. Well, except for Chuck Todd, LOL! Ari Melber is quite attractive, Nick confessore, Ned Price, and a bunch of other of the talking heads.
BTW, it's Andrea Mitchell not Angela.

(31,464 posts)They focus group the shit out of this stuff. It may be sad, but people want men to look strong and professional. They want women to be attractive (a purely subjective term, I know). I watch my wife dress for work in the morning. I never, ever suggest what she wears. it's not in her employment contract. But she agonizes over what will look nice, then she spends quite a bit of time applying make up (which I hate). She's not doing it for me or anyone else, as far as I can tell. She wants to look nice. Rhule, Tur, et al, are attractive women in the prime of their professional careers. Why not dress the part? It's their call. I don't think dressing in a flannel track suit and not combing your hair is going to help anyone. Leave it alone.

(153,160 posts)believe it or not, there is something between "flannel track suits and uncombed hair" and agonizing over makeup and outfit

(611 posts)I theorize that Roger Ailes (now known as Roger Dead) had a Kim Novak fixation. Icy blonde, angular face, etc....
I dont hold it against them that they are attractive but I DO hold it against them that they work for Fox. And that many probably succumbed to Roger Deads charms.

Some of the really bright women reporting on the current state of affairs:
Rachael Maddow leads the pack.
Amy Walter is a brilliant political analyst who brings an unbiased perspective.
Katy Tur was not afraid to cover the Trump campaign honestly...sometimes at her own peril. She is still takes no crap during interviews.
Natasha Bertrand has been an effective investigator in the whole Trump-Russia affair. She is very good at finding the "so what" as events unfold.
If you are troubled by their hair length and fashion choices, turn your chair around and listen to them without watching. I think you will find high quality journalists. Just because they don't look like Walter Cronkite of Chet Huntley does not mean that they are not excellent journalists.

(18,868 posts)It would not be so bad but the Repub talking heads are just awful.
Personally, I think putting only really pretty women on air is the misogyny. That and the weather reporters with boobs hanging out. I am pretty sure they don't dress like that for the women viewers.
This is just a personal thing but too pretty men or women kind of turn me off .
My favorite is Anapour. She laughed when a reporter suggested she was attractive. She said she thought she was kind of raw looking.

(53,410 posts)In their attire. Whats wrong with a casual leather jacket, with or without a tie? Or an attractive shirt with no tie under a blazer. Or a great sweater with a shirt collar showing att the neck?
Suits are so drab, and most ties are duller than shit.
If men started doing that wed all be used to it within a year.
