Borowitz Report: Mitt Romney’s Olympic Trouble Continues

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/2012/07/mitt-romneys-olympic-trouble-continue.html

LONDON (The Borowitz Report)—Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s gaffe marathon at the 2012 Olympics in London continued unabated today.

Mr. Romney’s day got off to a bad start when he told a reporter for the Sunday Times, “I don’t mind that the British keep calling me a banker, but why do they pronounce it with a ‘W’?”

Any hope that the former Massachusetts governor would recover from such missteps was shattered after the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony, when he blasted former Beatle Paul McCartney for not being prepared to sing “Hey Jude.”

“He did not seem ready to sing that song, which was certainly disconcerting,” Romney said. “Maybe he should have gone with a song that he had done before.”

I believe he's found a new title in my mind.

On edit: I like "wee" better than "wittle."

Especially this line.

Alfie Langlan, owner of the popular Earl’s Boot pub, in Central London, summed up Mr. Romney’s performance this way: “Mitt Romney is coming across as an out-of-touch rich person in a country that still has a Queen.”

The racist and bigotry is so thick in parts of the US here it does not matter how much of a blunderhead Romney is. Enough voters hate Obama so much because he is black they would put in Satan if he were a Republican. And when you have a billboard up that compares Obama to the Aurora shooter and it is not burned down immediately, you wonder. You certainly will not hear a peep out of GOP politicians.

The rest of the campaign by the GOP will be about spewing as much hatred about Obama and minorities and gays as possible. The hate machine has not even begun yet. ALL AND I MEAN ALL OF THE GOP MANTRA IS ABOUT RACIAL HATRED. There rhetoric and dogs whistles just drip and gush with it 24/7.

It is the civil war all over again. Their racial hatred just grows every day. And it makes you sick.

Did he come up with that "banker/wanker" line that I've been seeing all over the internets, or did he just appropriate it for this bit?

Clearly, Sir Paul was choked-up as he began singing Hey Jude... and emotion that Mitt would not understand... because it does not compute. You could see it just sort of wash over McCartney as he began to sing. He was so very proud of his country. It was a beautiful thing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanker

Wanker is a pejorative term of English origin common in Britain and other parts of the English-speaking world, including Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. It initially referred to an "onanist", literally meaning "one who wanks (masturbates)" but has since become a general insult. It is synonymous with the word tosser.[1]

Although not common in the United States, most Americans understand its meaning.[2]

Mary Cresswell, an American etymologist, describes 'wanker' as "somewhat more offensive in British use than Americans typically realize".[13] The word was used twice to comic effect in the Simpsons episode "Trash of the Titans", which caused no offence to American audiences, but prompted complaints on occasions when the episode was broadcast unedited in the United Kingdom.[14]

In a post naming "the one true wanker of the decade," Atrios defined a wanker as follows,

"Truly great wankers possess a kind of glib narcissism, the belief that everything is about them while simultaneously disavowing any responsibility for anything. ... Such wankers are impervious to criticism because they're always doing battle with straw critics. They never remember what they said last week, and assume you won't either."[25

That's too hard to believe that he could not know Paul McCartnry wrote Hey Jude...
