...he is a criminal that needs to be imprisoned.
He is a threat to our national security, just as others have said.
It is a mistake to think that Robert Mueller can solve this crisis all by himself. His position was created by the Justice Department and they cannot divorce themselves from its success or failure. Most of all, they cannot assist in its failure. They must support the idea of justice over the rights of kings and wannabe dictators.
The House and Senate must divorce themselves from the partisanship that guides their conscience. It is not about Party - it is about the survival of our democracy.
Impeachment is not an appropriate punishment for this assault upon our republic.

(13,040 posts)all the alliterations mentioned, including ILLEGITIMACY, in great detail. All the actions taken by him and his enablers on rolling back policies be declared null and void, and said policies restored back to Obama days prior to 45 to ensure we have continuity of a well-functioning government after this horrific and dark episode of history is over and done with.

(1,264 posts)I have thought the same thing. The NEXT president should be called #45 and drumpf should be sent to prison. He should never be considered an ex-president because he never was a legitimate president

(6,709 posts)there need to be consequences for illegal behavior by the rich and powerful.
Gerald Ford set a dangerous precedent when he pardoned Nixon before he could be charged or tried for anything by the justice system. Among other things it allowed Republicans to claim forever after that he was railroaded out of office by the press and his political opponents. The pattern continued with Iran-contra pardons, the torture regime of Bush and Cheney, letting the banksters off the hook, etc etc etc.
Impeaching, or simply voting out the bad actors is not enough. It is not about politics, it is about the rule of law.

(6,709 posts)It is an open invitation to corruption and abuse, especially with tRump in office. It would take a constitutional amendment though.

(46,094 posts)I'm concerned that the rule/tradition of not indicting a sitting president will be supported, even in this case.
My ideal plan would be to remove him from office and then "lock him up".

(33,342 posts)After TrumPutin is impeached and removed from office, then let loose the hordes of prosecutors.
The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When sitting for that purpose, they shall be on oath or affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present.
Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States: but the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law.

(13,421 posts)I honestly think the current GOP controlled Congress will never impeach or remove him. For some, he's a convenient distraction while they loot and burn the nation for their corporate masters. Some, however, I think are every bit as corrupted by foreign interests as he is. They know it ALL will come out if anybody breaks ranks and tries to remove him, and they don't want to go down with him. It's self protection to protect him. (Not gonna lie, I've wondered if there isn't a fear of personal physical safety too, but that's probably my tin foil hat that's too tight, so I try not to trot that out too often...)
The only hope we have to see him in an orange jumpsuit is taking over Congress. Frankly speaking, I wonder if even that will be enough because there is an awful lot of money at play in elections at that level. It is entirely possible that there are Dems who are compromised--some without even knowing it. With Citizens United in full force there really is no way for anybody to be safe or sure where all the money comes from.
Sorry to be a downer.

(18,632 posts)Their first action will certainly be to pardon Trump and his confederates for everything.
They are all desperate to keep the details of treason from being exposed so this would effectively close down the investigation.

(33,516 posts)Because of his ignorance, his poor mind, his absent ability to think critically, his abrasive personality this outcome is inevitable, and even if he is too stupid to recognize it himself, it is clear that those around him are understanding it increasingly.
He's coming to the point of Berlin Bunkerdom.
Impeachment is a necessary prelude to criminal indictment.
I personally believe he will die in prison, a common criminal.

(32,634 posts)Trump will never understand the depth/breadth of his treachery. To his dying day he'll blame other people - anyone else but himself. But you know what? I don't care. We still believe in the Constitution and most of us still love our country. We're sick of what he's done to all of us. Those who believe in the rule of law - that would be most of us - need to see this through and we need to get to work putting the country back together.
The one good thing that comes out of this is that it could lead to the destruction of the Republican Party. When people finally understand what the Trump Republicans have done to this country, that party is done.

(530 posts)... and it would put another criminal - Mike Pence - in charge. We need to get rid of the whole lot of them, from the entire corrupt cabinet, to the actual family members benefiting from nepotism, to GOP "leadership" including Ryan and McConnell! They are all in on this thing to some degree and need to be held accountable for taking a dump on their oaths of office.

(11,885 posts)For what he is, a terrorist working for another terrorist putin, and should be treated as such. He's not just a criminal, or just treasonous, he's terrorized this country and the world with putin, and helping sponsor terrorist acts by aligning with him. He's attacking all our institutions, and our judicial , and legislative branches, and helping putin do his dirty work because he's compromised. It may not be much longer before we all know it all, and it'll be so bad no one will admit they were for him. It'll be really bad the things this guy's done, and is doing.

(6,900 posts)I hope Mueller indicts Trump for his crimes. Let his defenders in Congress learn about it in the news, just like the rest of us. Then they will be forced to choose between moving to impeach him or waiting for all the evidence to become public. That should make even those traitors pause before defending. Rats usually jump from sinking ships.
