Hillary Clinton wrong about Trump voters, Durbin says

Hillary Clinton’s remarks earlier this month characterizing voters who cast ballots for President Donald Trump as xenophobic and misogynistic are “not helpful at all,” Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin said Sunday, insisting that the Democratic Party is moving beyond Clinton as it approaches the midterm elections.

...“My friend Hillary Clinton is wrong. Thirty percent of the people that voted for Donald Trump had voted for President Obama. Why?” Durbin told “Fox News Sunday.“

“The same people who looked for change with President Obama thought there wasn't enough, as far as their personal lives were concerned, and they supported Donald Trump. That is a reality the Democrats acknowledge.”

...“Hillary Clinton, like every American, has the right to express her point of view and she obviously gets press coverage,” he said. “But we are moving onto the next chapter in American history. We have new Democratic leadership, and more people aspiring to be candidates in 2020. It’ll be a different cast of characters completely.”

My only disagreement here: The only way you get to 30 percent is by counting the 2008 election. But he was on Fox and probably wanted to rattle them and their viewers cage a little.

I wish he’d just keep quiet.

Look up “spineless D” in the dictionary and there’s a picture of Durbin.

to understand why because that is just the fact. And it is not because they were racists. For many of them it is because they were angry with government, had economic anxiety, and simply wanted change. And how about all the Obama voters who stayed home? Should we attack them too for indirectly helping Trump? Let's move on and win in 2018 by not insulting or alienating ANYONE no matter how they voted in 2016.

we can discuss it. But your desire to appease trump voters at the expense of the base and the solid Democratic voter is not very reassuring.

Those who voted for Obama and then voted for trump are not "gettable". You cannot appeal to them by logic or policy or truth. They voted for Obama for the same reason they voted for trump; they wanted drama and excitement. It was not change, but entertainment that they sought. Obama was new and "shiny". He was hot. Then trump was the "shiny" object. He had a reality tv show. Wow.

They do not care about policy or position. You cannot appeal to them with campaigns based on truth and reality. They want reality television. You think they voted for trump because they thought he cared for them and would work hard to improve their situation. If someone thought that, they are below reasoning. Come on. How could anyone be that dumb, that oblivious to reality?

They never listen to a position, read a newspaper, understand a political situation, or know how government works. They are just looking for a diversion. They will parrot back to a pollster whatever sound bite they think makes them sound reasonable or sympathetic. But we are becoming the Idiocracy. Hector Macho Camacho will get their vote every time.

Now the Obama voters who sat home. Those are who we can reach. Once they realize that they were the targets and victims of a right wing and russian led campaign of disinformation, they can see the reason they need to vote.

Why are we acting as if the virulent racism is Donald Trump's only dispicable trait? There was clearly a lot of sexism involved in the attacks against Hillary Clinton.

Also, why would someone with "economic anxiety" vote for a person who repeatedly refuses to pay contractors who do work for him?

They could be both, all and so much more. A person might even go as far as to say they reflect the same people who voted for them.
Instead of telling other people about who they think we all are what the fuck are they doing about the mess inside what they call the beltway?

Doesn't mean that they have some ideological or political agenda that one can pinpoint or appeal to. Thirty percent of the people don't know what the eff they are voting for when they vote, and there is no rhyme or reason to their choices. (I'm not just saying that: political scientists have written reams of papers on the bizarre voting habits of the American populace.)

That's part of the problem right there.

The viewers of that channel don't understand the truth because they have been so brainwashed. Hillary, ONCE AGAIN, told the truth.

I'm getting to the point where everyone else can stick it where the sun don't shine. That's what we need more of. Truth telling.

Durbin is my Senator, but he's turning a little cowardly. He needs to take a look at the Parkland kids for an example of how you deal with these thugs.

McCaskill and Brown have already said the same thing. Durbin didn’t go on Fox to say this without first discussing it with Schumer.

of his policy wasn't a great idea. They may have voted for Obama but the voters in question also did what they always do and continued voting straight republican in every other election. During his 8 years in office Obama fulfilled his duties as president with intelligence, with a style and grace that republican presidents never seem to bring to the table.

Obama brought us, and the world, back from the brink of economic collapse. He made it look easy, too easy. So, that particular segment came to the conclusion that if a N***** could do it, anybody could. Then they decided to test their little theory by placing the most ridiculous fleaball momo they could find into office.

If these voters didn't find any change it's because they didn't want to. During his time Obama had a number of different jobs acts and programs put in place to close the "skills gap". I guess the "Obama-trump voters" decided to forget how THEY rejected it all out of hand. The tax breaks we were given for returning to college and programs initiated for retraining to other careers. Things were put in place to help them succeed and they turned it all down.

They didn't, and still don't want any sort of real change. They want to exist in a world where they have no competition, and requires one to put forth zero effort to maintain marketable job skills. Ever the consummate con-men trump and the GOP know their marks quite well.

I remember reading something about one of Jesse Jackson's runs for the White House ('84 or '88, I forget which); the reporter talked to voters in...Michigan, I think? And one comment that kind of stuck out was some guy who said "I'm voting for the n*****, he's the only one who gives a damn about the working man".
