Marco Rubio tells March for Our Lives crowd many oppose gun bans

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who has been criticized by many survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, told people who attended Saturday's rallies that he respects their views but does not "agree with all of the solutions they propose."

"I commend those who today are peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights to march in favor of a gun ban," Rubio said in a statement about the March for Our Lives protests across the nation.

"While I do not agree with all of the solutions they propose, I respect their views and recognize that many Americans support certain gun bans. However, many other Americans do not support a gun ban. They too want to prevent mass shootings, but view banning guns as an infringement on the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens that ultimately will not prevent these tragedies," he said.

Rubio went on to caution people marching for gun control that while "protests are a legitimate way of making a point, in our system of government, making a change requires finding common ground with those who hold opposing views."

kind of killer semi-automatic gun.

Rubio isn't being specific.. just saying "gun ban".. Gaslighting.

And, this fucker from him..

"Rubio went on to caution people marching for gun control that while "protests are a legitimate way of making a point, in our system of government, making a change requires finding common ground with those who hold opposing views."

Since when do the gop find "common ground" with the Democratic Party or anything besides their own greedy needs?

As worded, it's every semi-automatic firearm that isn't a .22 rimfire. That's a mighty big ask. A gun ban doesn't have to be universal to qualify as a ban. Saying the rally wasn't calling for gun bans is disingenuous.

"Those who hold opposing views" includes a lot of Democrats, especially in rural areas.

Quoth Rubio:

"to march in favor of a gun ban"
"other Americans do not support a gun ban"
"but view banning guns as an infringement on the Second Amendment rights"

Yes, one time he says 'banning certain guns', but the other 3 times as you can see above, he clearly is creating a straw man via conjuring in the listeners mind "a ban on ALL guns", when that's NOT what the march was about.

99% of people when they hear the phrase 'banning guns' ... perceive it as ... well, EXACTLY what those two words, in that order, actually friggin' mean, oddly enough.

The phrase "a gun ban" uses the indefinite article a, meaning an unspecified singular, or in other words, "any." The fact that you acknowledge his reference to "certain guns" reinforces the fact that he is not referring to an all-encompassing ban.

Everyone on both sides knows what he's talking about: a ban on "assault weapons," which is the highlight of the Parkland manifesto, as referenced above. The only straw man is in your imagination.

what solutions do you propose, eh rubio?

the senator has taken 3.3 MILLION DOLLARS from the NRA https://www.thewrap.com/sen-marco-rubio-called-nra-money-tweeting-florida-shooting/

i'm sure that doesn't influence your opinion, eh marco?

He's gotta give the NRA what they paid for.

Starting to think there might be room for a good Conor Lamb-style candidate to challenge him when he's up for reelection.

His favorables have taken a dive since this latest Florida shooting.
