At least one advertiser is pulling its sponsorship of Laura Ingrahams program after the Fox News host attacked a survivor of the Parkland school shooting.
The syndicated talk radio host, who also broadcasts weeknights on Fox News, gloated over reports that gun safety advocate David Hogg had been rejected by four colleges despite stellar grades.

Notice how she got his GPA wrong, and said 4.2, when David received a 4.1.
It's just the subtle digs that these assholes make that pisses me off!

(11,949 posts)Top universities are just hard to get into.
I will note that Emma Gonzales is attending New College, one of the best schools in Florida.

Other universities have to reject just based on numbers - theyve already filled their class with applicants for a certain field of study. I think the UC system does that.

(56,828 posts)than they were back in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Hogg was also applying to top notch state universities like UCLA and UC-Berkeley as an out of state student. If he was a California resident instead of Florida, he likely would have had a much better shot at getting into one or both of those two schools.
My daughter is a high school sophomore and I went to a presentation by the woman that is the head college guidance person at her high school and it seems mind-bogging how tough some top universities are to get into these days. (it was for parents of juniors, but nobody kicked me out) Top schools admit 4-6% of applicants, and specific majors at top schools are much more selective than that. My daughter had some interest in musical theater, but if you want to study Musical Theater at the University of Michigan, they admit 13-15 kids out of 5,000 applicants/year - and, it's much harder if you're female, since somewhere around 80% of applicants are female. So 3/10 of 1% of applicants per year get into UM in a good year when they admit 15 kids. However, if 80% of applicants are female and 8 of the kids admitted are female, then the odds are 8 out of 4,000, or 2/10 of 1%. And, you still need to get into the school academically.
