Advertising on the Laura Ingraham show - ugh

I work for one of the companies who has decided to withdraw its advertising from Ingraham's time slot. SO all freaking day I took calls from angry, self-righteous "patriots" who claimed to see all sides of the story but somehow still managed to land on the wrong side: How DARE we pull our advertising, I'm a paying customer, What do kids know about our Second Amendment rights, I will NEVER, EVER shop with you again and am telling all my friends to boycott you... on and on.

I seriously don't get paid enough to listen to these crybabies. As one of my coworkers remarked: "Look, I'm just a service slave. Take your frustrations out on PR or a puppy, whichever falls more in line with your ideology." Heh.

Had to vent. And please, if you shop somewhere and you support their decision to back away from the right wing bullshit, call and let them know. The jackasses out-called the decent people by 10:1 today. We all noticed it.

I don't normally take those sorts of calls but there were so many that senior reps had to take them.

Because if you were getting calls 10-1 in opposition to pulling advertising, then either your company decided to ignore 90% of their customer's complaints, or those of us on the correct side of history were voicing our opinions electronically, and at a much higher rate (and greater volume) than the callers. The only other possibility is the company just made up it's own mind.

That last one is extremely unlikely, given that companies need customers to stay in business.

My day usually includes two hours of responding to emails. I received no emails praising the company's decision and about five telling the company to f*** off.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

They're unhinged and irrational. Trying to have a rational conversation with them must be exhausting in the extreme.

Rest up, now...

Probably, the good PR will make up any difference.

Regardless, I wouldn't think that revenue loss from not advertising on a particular show would amount to much. Your company will just move that advertising to other venues and do just fine.

Thanks for sharing!......

You know that your company is on the correct side of the issue, but I know it's small comfort when you're being verbally abused by ignorant jackasses. They do seem to speak out a lot more than those who support doing the right thing. I see that in the embarrassingly ignorant comments in my local newspaper, too. Hang in there...
