ESPECIALLY in times of conflict, like right now.

And yes, a lot of soldiers do join, in times of conflict, looking for someone to shoot.

That is psychopathic.

Although there is a social tendency to collectively refer to members of the military as heroes, (esp. during a protracted conflict), I have personally witnessed soldiers being forced into psych. eval.s as well as removed from active, front line duty.

And the great majority of people who join the military aren't there to kill. Can you present any studious or statistical data that contains information about the percentage of "insane" people there are in the military?

I'm not putting this out there as a function of the majority, and the discussion of military members as "heroes" is a worthy one, but your blanket statement isn't accurate.

join for the sole purpose of killing other people? I hope you're not trying to say that everyone who joins the military joins because they want to kill?

Some soldiers are trained to support the ones who kill. Some people join the military for economic reasons. As Mike Malloy and Thom Hartman say it is also a social welfare system because some join for the benefits. The purpose of the military is not to plant flowers and put on a social function for the neighbors. Just ask the weapons manufacturers if their produces are for hunting animals and target practice.

He's the universal soldier and he really is to blame.

Of course now it's she as well. I think women are especially out of their minds to join the military.

I despise and no, I do NOT support the troops.

They chose their beds. Let them lie in them.

Fools.

the military and actually talked to a couple of recruiters from different branches. I sat him down and had a heart-to-heart with him. I made it clear that I would support him no matter what but he needed to think really hard about the fact that taking on a commitment like that had a dark side of agreeing to kill others on command. We talked a long time that night and I left him to consider what he wanted asking him to give thought to the act of taking someone else's life and how he would feel about doing so himself. I don't know whether it was attributable to that conversation or not, but a couple of months later he told me that he had decided not to join but had picked an area of study to pursue at the university.

I know my son and for all of the macho strutting he did as a young man, I never have believed he would intentionally hurt someone.
