The HILL Opinions: Comey's book tour is a colossal mistake

From unqualified reports that Comey got an immunity, to 2 Repug Congressmen taking license to receive by claiming McCabe lied to Coney (about unauthorized releasing info to the press) - it's hard to know - what to believe.

Former FBI Director Coney has a new book out, which he is doing a "tour" of.

Question is - should James Coney - be doing so????

Below is the Op-ed via "The HILL"

OPINION | WHITE HOUSE
.
BY JAMES GAGLIANO, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR 576

The views expressed by contributors are their own and not the view of The Hill

Announcements of scheduled appearances for the widely anticipated $850-to-attend book tour by fired FBI Director James Comey foreshadow a much-ballyhooed return to the public square. Media outlets eagerly booked the former director, and his opus, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership,” briefly jumped to No. 1 on Amazon’s best-seller list.

But should Comey — a central witness in special counsel Robert Mueller probe — be making public his version of events which will certainly differ significantly with what President Trump, the central target in the special prosecutor’s probe, has repeatedly stated?

Comey was humiliatingly removed by the president last May and enjoyed a brief period of bipartisan sympathy for the disgraceful manner in which he was dispatched. The FBI’s seventh director learned of his termination via televised news reports while appearing before an FBI audience in Los Angeles. This is not the manner with which career public servants should ever be separated from service. Yet, with the current president, it has become de rigueur.

mostly because Congress abrogated it role and partly because of the subject matter relating to confidential material. But the American citizen must be fully informed of the crimes and misdemeanors of their President as they were during Watergate with Nixon. As long as he is not releasing confidential information then yes the American people should informed. If the facts don't support impeachment then the American people need to know that too. The American people will ultimately weigh the evidence anyway in the voting booth

The big question for all of us really NEEDS to be, WHY did he and McCabe do it? WHY did they both commit what amounted to career suicide by interfering in the election on behalf of the right? And was Comey acting alone with his deputy and a few others in the FBI, or was he engaged in a conspiracy with other powers on the right to subvert our election?

Trump should of course have protected Comey's job, instead of firing him with the official (at least attempted official) excuse of interfering in the election, but Trump of course was too much of a loose cannon to stick to his role.

So Comey's self protective book and tour, rejecting Rosenstein's reason for firing and pushing a very different vision, are anything BUT a giant mistake for him. His actions show clearly that he was, at very least, interfering in the election. So he's doing his proactive best to cause the nation to see instead only the picture he wants, of Comey as a great American hero the nation can believe in.

Note that the forces protecting Comey are extremely powerful and have mostly been able to control the MSM narrative on this. Comey's book will give them much to spill out adulatory messages over, and we should all watch for the names of those who pump this message out.

Yesterday, though, I heard a cluster of talking heads on MSNBC or CNN clearly not at all buying Comey's victim story and hinting at his interference, which may auger poorly for Comey's future.

His publishing contract probably requires that he actively participate in the promotion of his book.

Why wouldn't he? He stands to profit from the increased sales that a promotional tour could provide. Additionally, Mr. Comey is probably desperate to tell his story. Trump and his minions have done everything they could to diminish this man's accomplishments. He was a serious public servant for many years and I'll give him his due in that respect.

I'm really not interested in a debate about whether Mr. Comey tilted the election to Trump by reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email. There were so many side issues related to this that the argument just becomes confusing and, quite frankly, moot. (Remember that Bill Clinton felt the need to board Attorney General Loretta Lynch's plane which forced her to recuse herself. That left it to Mr. Comey to have to address the issues related to the emails. How did that work out for Mr. Clinton's wife? Not such a smart move, eh, Bill?)

Here's the point: Mr. Comey is a private citizen. As long as he doesn't violate any national security issues, he's free to tell his story. If it causes additional stress and trouble for Trump and his gang, GOOD!

Massive subversion of our democracy is of no importance?

What would interest you? Learning that you, or your parents if you're young, will not be able to afford most healthcare for the rest of your lives, however long that is? How about all the years you or they have invested in Social Security mostly vanishing with the signing of a bill? Have any problem with relatives moving into your home, permanently? Or perhaps you sleeping in someone's converted dining room or garage?

I think you should reconsider whether the corruption and theft of elections by people in positions of great power could affect you.

They don't need you for labor.

They're terminally fed up with your trying to sponge off the wealth they've diverted to their pockets.

They're putting an end to being taxed to support retired people who are no longer of any possible use to them. And don't for a minute imagine, that "privatization" wouldn't mean they'd sack the entitlement funds we all built with every paycheck, because they would.

saw a comment just yesterday calling him a 21st century Eliot Ness...this from an R.

I just want to keep the heat on dft 'cause it takes him further and further from anything resembling the people's business (as some of the redeemable deplorables have already noticed) and brings us closer to the time when he just picks up and goes home, fleeing seconds ahead of the law (like that's gonna work). The more pressure he feels the more stupid shit he does.

I want to strip him of all his ill-gotten gains (which is everything, pretty much) and lock his pasty lard ass UP.

Did what he did will be revealed in Muellers findings somewhere, although we don't know for sure why he did what he did there may be an explanation we haven't heard yet.

I don't know what the answer is but I will wait for the truth as we are finally told, I have read a couple of reasons and others here are not happy with what transpired along with myself by the way I haven't quite vilified Comey for it yet.

I'm sure other things will leak out long after our national nightmare is over as Mueller will only release what can be proved but you know that's never the whole story.

We know we and Hillary got screwed but luckily they won't get away with it.

Well, considering they still are of course....

Arguably, the FBI helped Trump more in the polling, Mueller is trying to defend the FBI's integrity, nothing more, nothing less, don't expect any serious revelations regarding the FBI's behavior from Comey.
