(CNN)Anthony Borges, the last patient from the February 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has been released from the hospital, according to his attorney.
Anthony, 15, was shot five times while protecting his classmates from the gunman on the day of the shooting. He had barricaded a door with his body and was shot through the door.
A third of his lung had to be removed, one bullet came close to his liver, and three bullets hit his legs in the shooting that killed 17 people, NBC's "Today" show reported Wednesday morning. Wearing an FC Barcelona jersey, Anthony spoke haltingly to "Today" due to his injuries.
"I feel good," he said.
"I (thought) I was going to die."

He's more than earned it. What a remarkable young man.
Selfishly, I hope he joins the other students who are leading the charge in favor of changing the gun laws. As brave and articulate as David Hogg, Emma Gonzales, et al., are, there would be something about having someone who had actually been critically injured during the shooting that would make a powerful statment, just by his presence.
Let's see the Repugs/NRA try to make personal attacks against him, call him a crisis actor, or say he doesn't have standing to talk about the issue because of his age.
Throw me into that briar patch.

(43,280 posts)Im a mother. Maybe even if I wasnt one Id want to mother these kids, make their paths smoother, clap and cheer for them, soothe them, let them know how truly precious they are. And weep for their struggle and their pain.

(84,607 posts)Thats what helps me get the Black Lives Matter movement so intimately. I feel a sisterhood with every grieving, suffering mom among them.
I can just imagine the agony of the moms in this, of those who sit in vigil beside a hospital bed when their little one - even if hes a big tall strapping teenager - hoping against hope that their baby will pull through. When that baby does, I feel tremendous relief and gratitude.
This young one is a true hero and an example of such amazing courage - courage LITERALLY under fire.
These are ALL our children. I think its perfectly right that we all feel protective of them as if they all really were our own. And I still regard my own two grown kids as my babies.

Hope he continues to heal, and should PTSD ever hit, may he get all the support and care he needs.
