(46,179 posts)I got a call from my dentist explaining that my insurance no longer covers the cleaning I had last month. I owe them and extra $263 over and above what I paid them at the time. I'm not sure where that's going to come from, having had about $1200 cut from my summer pay.
I have a health savings account; I'm ignoring everything, letting the amount build, hoping someday to achieve one or more of the following health needs that are not covered by my insurance:
Breast reduction to relieve my very bad back. Being able to stand straight, wear normal shirts, and engage in various activities without the "shelf" getting in the way would just be gravy.
Some sort of help for the right knee and left ankle that restrict my formerly abundant physical activity.
Laser surgery so I can quit buying, losing, breaking, and generally floundering around with my glasses, and possibly see to drive at night.
Some major dental surgery the dentist has been pushing as an incentive to keeping my teeth into old age.
A visit to a dermatologist to find out why, after 5 decades of smooth, untroubled skin, I am gaining an abundance of moles, and to help keep my (mild) psoriasis in check.
I am currently paying MORE for LESS insurance, with sky-high deductibles and higher co-pays, and getting LESS care, than I was paying before "Obamacare." All on less income, having taken paycuts 4 years in a row.
Edited to add: Any health care plan that gets my endorsement must be universal, not-for-profit CARE, not a plan to put people on more expensive insurance that they can't afford to use.
