BET news anchor T.J. Holmes pulled over for driving while black, live-tweets incident

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/t-j-holmes-tweets-traffic-stop_b139637

BET News anchor T.J. Holmes, who is launching a late night news-comedy hybrid for the channel later this year, live-tweeted a traffic stop. Holmes, who used to be an anchor at CNN, tweeted the following this morning:

Driving while black ain't no joke! instagr.am/p/NtNk4mt9Xg/

He followed up with a number of tweets, noting that he was not given a plausible reason for why he was pulled over:

Officer's reason for pulling me over: "wanted to make sure you have insurance on the car." I kid you not.

TJ Holmes?@tjholmes

Yep, in sitting on the side of the road 1 mile from my house with 2 cop cars behind me.

This is a damn shame. Officer is literally stumbling over his words trying to explain why he stopped me.

to the Secretary of State (DMV) when renewing my car plates. They know I have insurance, they have a way to check. One would think that law enforcement has access to that database too.

I didn't know that until my eldest's boyfriend got pulled over near Gettysburg (with MD tags) because the cop called in and found out his insurance had expired. Driving while black is still a problem.
